Solar Innovations, LLC provides custom, single-source manufacturing and installation of aluminum door and window, glass structure, and skylight products. Our team works collaboratively as part of the Fortune Brands Innovations (FBIN) in the Outdoors business segment alongside with Therma-Tru, Fiberon, and LARSON to develop products that enhance the outdoor living space.

This position is eligible for hybrid work schedule in our state-of-the-art Innovation Center located in Maumee, OH a suburb of Toledo. Some travel will be required to our manufacturing facility in Pine Grove, PA.

Job Description

In this role you will Lead a team to drive the execution of custom and standard products from ideation through launch. You will work on a variety of fenestration products and structures such as custom pivot doors, windows, skylights, and greenhouses, as well as new category innovations. You will be moving at a fast pace, collaborating with cross functional teams, driving creativity, continuous process improvements, and ensuring compliance to sound engineering practices to ensure high levels of quality are maintained for our premium brands.

YOUR ROLE:

• Manages staff and assigns projects to engineering and technical team members
• Drives for detailed project definition and scope to support resource planning and prioritization
• Develops engineering work breakdown structure to support planning and drive accountability
• Advocates on behalf of team members by securing adequate resources for success
• Lead and champion engineering best practices in the areas of Lean product development, DVP&R’s, DFMEA’s, Material and Performance specifications, Design Standards, CAD tools, predictive tools, etc.
• Leads continuous improvement projects related to engineering processes and tools, including researching, and proposing capital investments
• Communicates technical information to non-technical stakeholders
• Collaborates and builds relationships with other team leaders and departments
• Strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes and product designs, and to reduce waste
• Develops talent through mentorship, training, and personal development

Qualifications

• Minimum of B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in a product development environment using a Stage Gate process
• Five years of direct people management experience
• A strong track record of delivering successful design solutions from concept to production
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach individuals resulting in growth and improved performance
• Ability to collaboratively work with a variety of functions and opinions
• Deep understanding of engineering practices and ability to implement best in class processes
• Excellent, clear, and concise communication skills
• Highly motivated, hands-on, and enjoys a results-oriented environment
• Strong analytical skills and timely decision-making ability
• Ability and willingness to travel 15-20% of the time

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with 2D drafting and 3D modeling; AutoCAD and SolidWorks
• Experience with Aluminum extrusions
• Experience with Project Management planning tools (i.e., MS Project)
• Experience with products requiring 3rd part certification (e.g., regulatory, governmental, state, etc.)
• Experience with tools used for structural and / or thermal analysis (e.g., Ansys, STAAD, etc.)
