As FCC Technology Senior Engineer , you will be one of the Phillips 66 Subject Matter Experts in Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC). You will enhance the value of Phillips 66 FCC assets by providing best in class support for refinery optimization, catalyst selection, technology upgrades, project development, best practices, troubleshooting, and safety.
Responsibilities May Include:
Assessing and developing FCC strategic projects to align with organizational goals and objectives.
Improving reliability and mechanical availability of FCCs.
Evaluating and contributing to the selection of FCC catalysts to maximize product value.
Understanding FCC markets and negotiating with FCC suppliers, including catalyst vendors and licensors, to minimize costs and optimize value.
Defining good operation while developing and implementing Best Practices for the P66 FCC Network.
Setting targets and goals for optimal utilization of current and future asset bases.
Benchmarking technologies, tracking performance metrics, implementing unit monitoring, and stewarding process optimization.
Consulting with refineries, vendors, and P66’s R&D on operating issues, improvement projects, and new technologies, including repurposing FCCs for feeding sustainable feedstocks, plastics recycling, and petrochemical operation.
Staying current with technology improvements in catalyst, equipment, operating procedures, reliability, industry practices, controls, process safety, and environmental regulations.
Troubleshooting and developing solutions for significant FCC technology issues and incidents.
Using FCC kinetic models for optimization and yield studies. Training site engineers on the use of FCC kinetic models.
Conducting refinery visits during normal/upset operation and during Turnaround periods to assist in evaluation, monitoring, troubleshooting, optimization, and equipment inspection. Providing on-site startup assistance as required.
Guiding development of future P66 FCC subject matter experts and stewardship of process technology expertise.
Representing the company’s interests at industry conferences and in industry consortiums.
Working about 25% of the time with the Director, Process Design and Emerging Technology on a wide variety of FEL-0/1 projects – see preferred position requirements.
Required Qualifications:
Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering
10 or more years of oil industry experience
7 or more years of FCC technology experience
Travel 15% to 25% of the time
Occasional weekend work for turnaround or special situation assistance
Preferred Qualifications:
15 or more years of increasingly responsible professional experience associated with FCC technology
Achievement of an extremely high level of respect within the industry and recognition as a leading FCC authority
FCC site operating experience
Experience in FCC catalyst development and optimization
Good general refining process knowledge beyond FCCs
History of active participation in industry technology forums
Successful development and implementation of projects of major impact to the company
Superior communication and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate big picture ideas effectively
Strong customer and business focus
High level of personal motivation and initiative
Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency timeframes
Knowledge of petrochemical processes, especially around integration with FCC technology
Experience in carbon capture, plastics recycling, and/or bio-feedstock processing
Project management and cost estimation experience – your ability to provide support to the Director Process Design and Emerging Technology in FEL-0/1 project development in all technologies will be a significant benefit for a candidate in this role
