Job Purpose

Responsible for the project management and complete design of the electrical and controls functions of new and retrofitted small to large sized industrial wastewater treatment systems for our customers. Developing PLC/HMI programs, electrical drawings, and over-the-phone troubleshooting of control systems are daily tasks. This is a senior level position and an advanced skillset is required.

Essential Functions

• Design PLC based control systems for new, or modify existing, wastewater treatment systems controls including technical drawings, PLC memory maps, programming notes, etc.
• Manage individual project schedules and routinely report progress to the Automation Manager
• Interface over-the-phone with customers or with MES service techs to resolve issues and occasionally travel to customer sites for design reviews, research, installation, and troubleshooting
• Work with other specialist and manufacturing and electrical shop to ensure design intent is achieved while accepting design feedback and improvement suggestions
• Adhere to specifications and authoritative bodies such as NEC, NEMA, UL using good design and good documentation practices
• Strong leadership skills- ability to mentor junior level control specialists and train manufacturing associates in controls designs as necessary
• Ability and motivation to become the in-house expert

Knowledge and Skills

• Advanced experience in PLC Programming, specifically RSLogix5000, and RSLogix500
• Advanced experience in HMI Programming, specifically FactoryTalk SE, and FactoryTalk ME
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D
• Mechanically inclined, strong problem-solving skills, hands-on individual
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills- can effectively communicate with customers and peers both inside and outside the company
• Effective time-management skills, understand priorities and deliver on agreed goals

Education and/or Experience

• AS in EE, Automation, or Related Field or equivalent experience
• 5-8 years of experience in the design of industrial control systems and PLC programs OR 3/5 years of heavy Rockwell PLC/HMI programming experience
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
• Bachelor’s level degree is Preferred but not required
