The Role: Senior Buyer - Procurement

The Senior Buyer - Procurement is responsible for both the Tactical and Strategic supply chain functions related to their assigned material categories. These functions include but are not limited to Supply Planning, Purchase Order placement, Supplier Relationship Management, Supplier Search-Select-Deploy, Inventory Management, Make v Buy, and limited Production Planning. This role will have ownership of several key performance metrics related to inventory management, product cost, lead time, and Supplier performance. The Senior Buyer - Procurement will be responsible for building and sustaining reliable and cost-effective supply chains, utilizing and deploying SIOP discipline, and driving fact-based continuous improvement through internal/external partnerships and data they have created or identified. This role will serve as the Subject Matter Expert for their assigned categories; understanding market trends, new entrants or exits and supply risk. They will drive annual plans for Supplier engagement, audit, and strategy.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assure effective supply planning and execution with regular review of material requirements and timely purchase order placement
  • Provide hands-on, daily management that drives sustainable supply chain process improvements, with a focus on delivering operational effectiveness and efficiency
  • Assist with the development, and lead the implementation of, supply chain strategies to support corporate goals in the areas of Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Innovation
  • Develop short and long-term ideas which elevate the customer experience, service levels, support business growth, and drive profitability
  • Negotiate terms, delivery, and price with Suppliers. Monitor and assess performance.
  • Conduct negotiations and lead the Supplier selection process.
  • Provide cross-functional collaboration and strengthen relationships with Sales, Customer Service, Marketing, Warehousing and Quality to ensure team alignment and support strategic planning initiatives
  • Support senior management to monitor core supply chain performance, including delivering against product margin and cost objectives
  • Create, implement and share key metrics to measure and evaluate the end-to-end supply chain operations.
  • Identify opportunities, model desired outcomes and effectively manage performance of operational methods
  • Initiate and integrate modern technology and methodology to continuously improve processes and performance
  • Forecast material requirements, own and execute supply planning and the fulfillment process; work with the information flow for the entire supply chain and be responsible for the physical flow process from suppliers and production to our DC shelf
  • Benchmark internally and externally to identify improvement opportunities
  • Use sound inventory practices to support marketing activities while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory
  • Determine and maintain inventory levels based on expected customer service levels, including setting safety stocks, lead times, order quantities, reorder points and other related planning parameters. Use sound inventory practices to manage across A, B and C sku’s based on velocity, importance and other relevant factors.
  • Act as a Power User of ERP, supporting enhancements, tool development, and training.

Requirements and Skills:

  • BS degree in Supply Chain Management, or a related business degree combined with equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ supply chain experience with a concentration in Purchasing and Material Planning
  • Working knowledge of the end-to-end supply chain; proven track record of developing strategies/initiatives to improve supply chain effectiveness.
  • Experience as key contributor or facilitator in an S&OP process.
  • Prior experience with demand planning and forecasting software preferred
  • Previous experience with international and domestic sourcing of raw and finished goods
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships
  • Empathetic – listen and understand first approach
  • Power user of data
  • Knowledge of and user experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) with MRP system implementation experience preferred
  • Understanding of and curious about global economics, commodities and the ability to use market and Supplier information/analytics to better manage the supply chain
  • Highly organized with a proactive discipline
  • Collaborative nature with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Direct experience with product and standard costing, bill of materials structuring, and manufacturing planning processes
  • Ability to conduct supply chain risk assessments and initiate and develop risk mitigation strategies within critical schedule deadlines
  • Project Management skills, ability to quickly adapt to changing requirements or schedules
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking & problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite of applications is preferred (Teams, Outlook, Excel, etc.)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
