Who are we hiring?

The Lustgarten Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding pancreatic cancer research. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of accounting including reconciliations, preparing financial statements, assisting with budgeting, and preparing materials for board meetings and audits. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a hybrid work environment. This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of 3 days in the office.

What will you do?
  • Prepare and post journal entries for cash receipts, revenue, receivables, payroll, and investments.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations including bank recs, investments, fixed assets, revenue, expenses, receivables, and payables.
  • Reconcile cash receipts and tie them out to support.
  • Assist in preparing for the annual audit and the 990.
  • Help prepare board materials and finance and audit committee materials.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Analyze and reconcile all general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial data.
  • Provide support to program staff in developing program budgets and tracking actual expenses against budget.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What do you need to succeed?
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • At least 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other accounting software.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of 3 days in the office.
