Range:
Career Path I: $41,500 - $61,000
Career Path II: $43,000 - $80,500

Retirement:
As a contract teacher, this position will automatically be enrolled in the Teacher Retirement Fund (TRF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). In addition, this position is eligible to enroll in a 401(a) retirement investment plan, a 403(b) Match Program, and a tax-free post-retirement medical expense account (VEBA).

Additional Benefits:

These are no-cost health clinics that provide primary care treatment, generic prescription medications (at no cost), physicals, health screenings, and labs. Accumulated sick leave days and personal business days will be provided under this position as well. Additionally, EVSC employees have access to EVSC Wee Care, our employee-only early learning centers. Wee Care provides a quality early learning experience for children as young as six weeks through age five.

POSITION OVERVIEW
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to instruct students and facilitate their learning in accordance with corporation policies and state guidelines. Assists students in learning subject matter, skills, competencies, and ethics that will contribute to their growth as mature, responsible and productive members of the community.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The high school counselor shall be responsible for guidance functions that take place throughout the entire school involving staff and student personnel. High school counselors will serve the principal in the following areas: counseling, orientation, testing, referrals, attendance, curriculum, record keeping, services, and general.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Receives referrals and provide individual counseling to students in areas of personal, social, educational, and career development.
  • Works with groups of students who are experiencing similar difficulties or who could gain better understanding through working with others.
  • Assists parents in gathering, interpreting, and assimilating information in light of student needs.
  • Discusses with parents problems arising from their children’s attitudes and behavior in school.
  • Provides orientation for all students new to the school.
  • Cooperates in planning orientation programs for incoming students.
  • Plans informational meetings for parents to acquaint them with subjects and programs that are available for students.
  • Administers group tests and/or prepare those persons who will administer the tests.
  • Interprets individual and group testing data when relevant and use the feedback to facilitate the students’ school performance.
  • Makes referrals of students with special problems to psychological services or other agencies.
  • Consults with the parents, principal, assistant principal, teachers, and student regarding the referral, prepare the necessary forms, and serve as the contact between the school and referral agency.
  • Interprets the recommendations to parents, teachers, and student and use this information to facilitate the student’s school performance.
  • Counsels with students regarding problems relating to attendance.
  • Makes parental contact when students are truant from school.
  • Assists the principal and/or his designee in following Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation policies pertaining to absences.
  • Has a knowledge of the overall curriculum and how it relates to an individual’s possible career choice.
  • Supervises the maintenance of cumulative records.
  • Maintains a file of all psychological data available on students.
  • Maintains a record of conferences held by counselors.
  • Maintains confidentiality about students and families.
  • Monitors student progress.
  • Assists in organizing case conferences.
  • Cooperates with social service agencies.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of parent-teacher conferences.
  • Assists in enrolling new students.
  • Assists in withdrawing students from school.
  • Exchanges information with school personnel regarding student needs.
  • Coordinates student’s enrollment in homeroom.
  • Assists each student in preparing a tentative four-year program.
  • Works with students in becoming familiar with post high school education and training.
  • Assists students in making realistic educational and vocational choices.
  • Identifies students who do not meet the proficiency levels as required by the Evansville- Vanderburgh School Corporation.
  • Coordinates college and armed forces representative visits.
  • Processes college applications.
  • Provides financial aid information.
  • Assists in providing a college fair for area students.
  • Performs other counseling duties assigned by the principal when deemed necessary.
  • Maintains regular attendance.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Master of Arts degree in counseling, counselor endorsement.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid school counselor certificate.
