Summary

The Michigan Center for Translational Pathology is looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to join our cancer research group as a Research Assistant (temp). The successful candidate must be capable of thriving in a fast-paced laboratory environment. The individual should be familiar with routine molecular biology techniques and have an educational background in biomedical sciences or related subjects. An ideal candidate would also possess some basic computational skills that can be applied towards analysis of high-throughput functional genomics data. The candidate will work alongside an MCTP trainee and under direct supervision of a Principal Investigator or higher level research scientist. The candidate will be provided thorough training in all tasks required as part of the job and will be involved in collaborative and intellectually-engaging research. Responsibilities*

  • Basic in vitro, in vivo, functional assays and routine cell culture work.
  • Other wet laboratory techniques or assays that may be required depending on how the project progresses.
  • Basic computational analyses of next-generation sequencing data generated from a variety of functional genomics assays (sufficient training would be provided for this task).

Required Qualifications*

  • Basic cell and molecular biology background.
  • Basic molecular biology experimentation skills.
  • Interest in learning basic bioinformatics skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent documentation skills for research results.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and implement novel experimental techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety and ability to work carefully with potentially harmful agents.
  • High school diploma or Associate's degree

Desired Qualifications*

BS/MS in biomedical sciences or related subjects.

Background Screening
