Job Overview
The Georgetown Lombardi
Proteomics & Metabolomics Shared Resource (PMSR)
performs diverse research and service activities by using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry techniques. We aim to develop methods that exceed the normal resources of individual research programs, and make those technologies available as a shared resource. We also strive to provide an environment rich in expertise and educational resources; and collaborate with scientists from various backgrounds in GUMC, as well as external institutions.
The Research Specialist provides on-going improvement and technical support to the Proteomics unit of the PMSR in duties that include but are not limited to:
- Assist in the implementation of various sample preparation and LC-MS/MS techniques for the analysis of proteins, peptides, and small molecules
- Organize and maintain inventories – for example, laboratory reagents, solvents, glassware, and related items
- Assist in consumable ordering and receiving
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of PMSR
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Chemistry or related field
- At least 1 year of laboratory work experience in analytical techniques - such as liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry
- Demonstrated ability to perform independently, to communicate scientific results, and to participate in a highly collaborative environment.
- A strong work ethic
- Self-motivation to learn and to become familiar with primary scientific literature
- Excellent skills in communication, time management, organization, and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. degree in Analytical Chemistry or relevant field
- 2 or more years of hands-on experience in the operation of current mass spectrometers, including AB Sciex, Thermo, and Waters systems
- Experience in proteomics data analysis
