Advisory Board is a research firm acquired by Optum in 2017. For over 40 years, we’ve helped executives and future leaders in the health care industry work smarter and faster by providing provocative insights, actionable strategies, and practical tools to support execution. Research analysts work in teams researching market trends and intractable challenges facing executives across the health care industry. Teams share their research findings via reports on our website, email newsletters, our podcast, and virtual and live events. Analysts are actively involved in the full research process – from qualitative interviews and quantitative analysis to synthesizing findings and creating deliverables.

Analysts are initially placed on a team studying a specific health care market (e.g., health systems, payers, life sciences) or a cross-industry challenge (e.g., the aging population, behavioral health, digital transformation). As they grow in the role, analysts are encouraged to rotate to different teams to explore new topic areas and broaden their industry expertise.

Primary Responsibilities:

Research leadership

  • Generate steady stream of research leads from a variety of sources
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with senior health care executives
  • Analyze findings from primary and secondary research
  • Contribute to quantitative analyses to test hypotheses

Expertise development

  • Seek out opportunities to deepen understanding of the industry
  • Get up to speed quickly on new topics
  • Conceive and share insights, identify stories to support research hypotheses
  • Identify and critique potential solutions to intractable industry challenges

Communication

  • Lead with the most critical information for the audience whether writing or speaking
  • Speak up in meetings to share ideas and ask questions
  • Create deliverables, such as reports, case studies, tools, and presentations

Project management

  • Meet deadlines set by manager, team, and self; communicate with manager and teammates well in advance when deadlines require adjustment
  • Pursue work independently as appropriate and ask for help when needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree earned within the past 24 months from an accredited college/university; coursework to obtain degree must be completed prior to start of employment and verified within 6-8 weeks following the date at your school
  • 3+ months of work or internship experience in a professional setting
  • Experience conducting long-term primary and/or secondary research in an academic or professional setting
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered)
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $54,400 to $97,000. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $60,000 to $106,700. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
