Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing, the RN Supervisor is responsible for the comprehensive nursing care of residents in the facility, and for the supervision and education of nursing personnel who provide care to the residents on their tour of duty. Must be capable in areas of STJOG Nursing Dept. Software use and training. Must fill in for med-pass or other emergency clinical needs on occasion. All positions at STJOG are “At Will” unless specifically stated in writing. Breaks may occur where an RN Supervisor must cover multiple stations for limited times. Lunch and 15 minute breaks must be taken during medically and policy appropriate times, in coordination with the LVNs and the any supervisor’s knowledge. Breaks will not be denied without compensation (on duty meal break form must be filled out, or otherwise informed to payroll).

Essential Functions

Clinical

  • Coordinates resident care management on assigned tour of duty.
  • Accountable for the management, clinical care of residents including but not limited to:
  • Ensures provision of quality nursing care in accordance with Federal, State, and Company requirements based acuity of residents
  • Makes daily rounds to see all residents to ascertain condition and comfort
  • Follows safety policies in performing nursing care.
  • Performs resident assessments as condition warrants, i.e. developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care to include, but not limited to recognition of spiritual, emotional, psychological, and functional factors
  • Initiates procedures to protect resident from injury and infection
  • Monitors nursing personnel compliance to nursing policies and procedures
  • Initiates procedures to protect resident from injury and infection
  • Safeguards the resident’s privacy and property
  • Coordinates the admission of new resident(s)

  • Assists with resident diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and treatments
  • Implements nursing intervention as indicated by the Resident’s Plan of Care or as ordered by the physician
  • Administrative *
  • Assists Director of Nursing Services in developing, maintaining, and evaluating Nursing Services objectives including but not limited to:
  • Supports the overall goals of the company and the facility  Maintains acceptable standards of nursing practice
  • Ensures the exchange of essential information necessary for the provision of quality resident care
  • Maintains all documentation as required by Federal and State Regulations, and Company policy
  • Monitors inventory of supplies, equipment and/or medications to meet resident needs
  • Assists in the evaluation and development of nursing procedures
  • Makes recommendations for more effective usage of labor hours
  • Assists in orienting and educating of nursing personnel
  • Attends required in-services and facility/department meetings
  • Other responsibilities as delegated by supervisor.
  • Supervision *
  • Responsible for supervision of nursing personnel performance during tour of duty, including, but not limited to:
  • Assigns staff to meet resident acre needs
  • Reviews daily reports and resident assignments with Charge Nurses on their assigned stations
  • Ensures that assignments are based on qualifications of each staff member
  • Ensures that assignments are based on resident acuity
  • Ensures that assignments are made taking into consideration
  • Provides disciplinary counseling (verbal and written) to nursing personnel, as appropriate
  • Evaluates nursing personnel job performance
  • Participates in care plan meetings to identify resident needs, and develops plans to promote positive resident outcome
  • Makes daily rounds and documenting problems identified with appropriate follow-up
  • Provides input to nursing personnel and receiving feedback on assigned responsibilities
  • Communicates with on-coming shift regarding resident care needs
  • Attends in services as required. It is your duty to find out the entire content of all In Services you have not been able to attend
  • Consumer Service *
  • Presents professional image to consumers through dress, behavior, and speech
  • Adheres to company standards for resolving consumer concerns
  • Ensures that all consumer/resident rights are protected
  • Mentors staff and assists with retaining staff
  • Oversees all incident/accident in its entirety, including but not limited to proper documentation and notification of family and physician
  • Attend all mandatory in-service training
  • Practice the AWR techniques when communicating with the staff and coach staff on the AWR techniques as needed

Additional Responsibilities & Duties

Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with confidentiality and security

Risk Management

Cooperates fully in all risk management activities and investigations

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
  • At least two years nursing experience desired
  • Supervisory experience which includes Charge Nurse background and experience in long term care for the aged and chronically ill
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in California

Additional Requirements

  • Must keep all required certificates and/or licenses current
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills, demonstrates supervisory management, leadership skills and employee relations
  • Ability to assess and implement interventions for resident care based on standards of nursing practice and principles of nursing care
  • Maintain HIPAA regulations strictly in all interactions
  • Ability to carry out directions or instructions in English, ability to communicate in English
  • Demonstrates good character and continuing reputation of personal integrity
  • Able to adequately perform the physical requirements of the position

Our facility requires Background, TB, Physical, and Drug Test clearance.
