The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Recreation Assistant – at the Chandler Nature Center (Temporary Part-Time, Non-Benefited). This is a “year-round part-time” temporary position.

Who we are looking for
Our team members will be passionate about teamwork, collaboration, and instructing all ages. We are seeking a Recreation Assistant who will plan and supervise outdoor explorations, excursions, classes, and field trips. Ideal applicants will be energetic, creative, and organized and can apply independent judgment during programs. In addition, our employees must demonstrate excellent customer service and be able to communicate effectively with participants, parents, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Lead STEM/STEAM-themed field trips and Community Recreation Programs, such as environmental science, botany, and Sonoran Desert animal classes.
  • Drive and lead groups of up to 14 on hiking trips, outdoor experiences, and other excursions, including wine tastings, museum visits, and day-trip visits to Sedona.
  • Educate parks patrons by answering incoming calls and greeting walk-in visitor

Essential Duties:
1. Conducts and supervises various competitive and non-competitive games, arts and crafts, and instructional and classroom activities for youth; maintains order and enforces game and program rules, regulations, and policies to ensure the safety and well-being of participants.
2. Plans, schedules, and organizes daily program activities.
3. Prepares materials and resources for activities, including arts and crafts materials, sports equipment, and technical requirements.
4. Maintains required reporting, including daily attendance, activity, incident, and accident reports.
5. Assists in planning, organizing, and setup of field trips, special events, and projects.
6. Maintains a clean and safe environment at assigned recreation site; sanitizes equipment, vacuums, mops, and removes trash.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency; and
  • One (1) year of experience in a recreation environment; and
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License with acceptable driving record; and
  • First Aid and CPR/AED certifications may be required depending on assignment; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired Qualifications
  • Two (2) years in a recreation environment


The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment drug screen and background check and a MVRRS (Motor Vehicle Record Request System) check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results.
