Radiology Clerk


MAIN FUNCTION:

To perform general office duties, including computer entry, obtaining old records, and courteous telephone technique. Must be able to greet patients, review orders for accuracy, and provide minimal patient care functions. Possess ability to interact and coordinate with patients, patient’s families, physicians, and radiology technical staff regarding radiology procedures. Transport patients to and from room for diagnostic Imaging tests.


RESPONSIBLE TO:
Director, Imaging Services


MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED.

Proper phone etiquette with clear diction.

Interpersonal skills to provide direction and help to the public.

Physical ability to perform all aspects of Patient Transportation (Lifting, pushing, etc…)

Flexible Hours as needed to support department functions


PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

Microsoft Office courses. Current experience in clerical work. General typing skills. Computer experience. Medical terminology. Ability to function in fast paced environment.


WORKING CONDITIONS
:

Work will include multiple responsibilities from deskwork to heavy lifting and moving. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation and other conditions common to a hospital environment. Potential to wear appropriate protective barriers. Work may be repetitious at times.


POSITION EXPECTATIONS

  • Greets all customers (i.e. physicians, patients and family members, visitors and co-workers in a friendly and courteous manner and with a customer service focus.


  • Checks MEDITECH system for any outstanding or held reports by reviewing X-ray orders in various MEDITECH statuses.


  • Prepares patient information for processing and orders X-Ray exam in MEDITECH system as necessary. Including PET/CT responsibilities.


  • Coordinates image CD release requests, verifies "stat reading/critical finding/call results" reports to physician's offices and medical units and sending and receiving faxed information as necessary.


  • Gathers information for Quality Improvement as directed by the Radiology Managment.


  • Gathers monthly volume statistics as directed.


  • Maintains supplies to ensure appropriate level of office supplies are available.

  • Verifies patient ID with two forms of identification.


  • Transports or assists in the safe transporting of patients to and from inpatient floors and ED as needed for imaging. Expected to notify appropriate floor staff when returning patient post exam.


  • Understands the mechanics of carts, beds, and wheelchairs and able to operate independently and

safely. Understands and follows Safe Operating procedures for O2 tanks while in transport.

  • Demonstrates compliance with all Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures, and ensures that all patient information is kept confidential (HIPAA).


  • Escorts patient to appropriate modality and gives clear directions for patient prep prior to exam.


  • Manages Radiologist report tracking to identify delayed reports and acquires final signatures.
