Position Summary:

Schafer Industries is currently seeking a Quality Assurance Supervisor for its Schafer Gear Works operation in South Bend, Indiana.

Job Summary:

Provide operational assistance to Quality Department by supporting day-to-day Quality Assurance activities. Review, prepare and oversee necessary documents, tools, and programs. Coordinate customer PPAPs, corrective actions, and Quality system tasks. Oversee QA Technician activities.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the workflow in the QA Lab.Responsible for coordination of scheduling the daily functions of inspection including receiving, set up, in-process and final inspection. Clearing daily backlog for the shipment is a top priority.

Performs all receiving, in process or final inspections daily based on needs.
Completing appropriate documents, such as, lab inspection forms, defective material reports, material identification tags and SPC charts.
Supervises all QA Technicians for their performance, conduct. Continuous improvement and disciplinary needs.
Interfaces with QA Manager, production and shipping supervisors daily for efficient material flow through the lab. Also interacts with other department managers as necessary.
Work with production, engineering and QA Manager to resolve non-conformances and disposition in timely manner.

  • Audits, Corrective Action and Continual ImprovementResponsible for assisting in the development of continual improvement activities to enhance the quality system, Support the QA Techs during Production Audits to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system.

Conduct Internal Audits, Cell Audits, Dock Audits and oversee the Audit Schedule, including: creating audit finding reports, closing out audit findings and determine proper corrective and preventive actions, performing effectiveness verifications.
Document/Facilitate Root Cause analysis and maintain corrective action records including verifications for all types of audits, customer returns/complaints, supplier issues and for managing the corrective action.
Assist the Quality Manager with ensuring timely resolution of supplier failure, corrective actions and preventive actions and monitoring effectiveness.

  • New Product and Process ChangesPerforming all inspection requirements for new parts and special projects or coordinate through technicians.

Compiles data for PPAP submissions – ISIR, MSA, and Capability Studies.
Coordinate timely programs for CMMs and gear inspection through effectively managing technicians and if necessary, done by himself / herself.

  • DocumentationEnsures required paperwork is completed and all tracking logs are filled out.

Assist Quality Manager with creating and maintaining company quality documentation, such as quality procedures, work instructions, visual aids, quality alerts/bulletin, standard work, forms, etc.
Continuously improving QA receiving, inspection process and procedures.

  • Responsible for supporting the Schafer Business Process and effectiveness of the company by:Fully enforcing all ISO 9001 and company policies, procedures, and work instructions.

Fostering a continuous improvement philosophy.
Communicate to other shifts/departments to assure best practice across department, shift and plant.
Responsible for assisting with the planning, organizing and managing the overall activities of receiving / outgoing quality functions.
Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read blueprints, knowledge of GD&T, Gear Metrology and Gear Nomenclature highly preferred.
  • Hands on experience with measuring tools such as micrometers, optical comparator, attribute gages, Sunnen gages, air gages, etc. required.
  • Hands on experience with CMM for programming and operation.
  • Ability to collect and interpret accumulated data from various inspections accurately and effectively.
  • Ability to maintain and organize accurate files relating to all facets of the lab.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 3+ years of experience in supervision and 7+ years’ experience in quality.
  • Ability to use computer and Microsoft Office products and effectively communicate verbally and via email.

Pay: $57,674.45 - $81,311.25 per year
