Quality Assurance Construction Inspector / Resident Project Representative: This person will be in the field full-time to perform construction observation and inspection services and review contractor construction methods, workmanship, and schedule to ensure project is built in accordance with the project plans and specifications. The scope of this position includes observation of all aspects of roadway, drainage, and utility infrastructure improvement projects of varying size and complexity. Oversight and verification of record-keeping related to roadway and utility construction in accordance with plans and specifications will also be required. Design and typical project management tasks are NOT included in the scope of this position. The following tasks will be performed on a regular basis;

  • Observe and document on-going construction work activities on multiple projects.
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure that work is in compliance with the plans and specifications for a design-build project.
  • Review and approve pay applications submitted by contractor for work completed.
  • Inspect barricades and traffic control devices and report deficiencies.
  • Maintain daily reports and project photo logs.
  • Attend project related meetings.
  • Coordinate and monitor construction materials testing per the applicable project standards and contract using designated testing consultant.
  • Review CMT reports and report any results that do not meet specifications.
  • Review and discuss constructability issues as necessary and provide assistance with finding solutions.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. (College Degree Preferred)
Required to have and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
Ability to effectively communicate with engineers, contractors and the general public.
Ability to read and understand plans of varying scope.

Working knowledge of current City of Austin, TXDOT, and MUTCD standards and specifications.
Working knowledge of construction means including materials, construction methods, plans and specifications, and associated safety requirements.
Ability to perform calculations using basic math, algebra, and geometry.
Knowledge of personal computers and applicable programs REQUIRED.

Previous experience in a construction inspection capacity is required. Extensive experience preferred.

Compensation

Competitive compensation package with bonus potential. Compensation is largely dependent on candidate qualifications, professionalism, work ethic, references, past employment, and ability to build upon successful client relationships.

Pay: From $35.00 per hour
