Job Description
Bose Corporation is dedicated to developing breakthrough technologies and delivering experiences that enrich people's lives. To do so, we take a different approach than most companies. Our success in the complex and changing world of consumer electronics rests on our ability to outsmart rather than just outrace the competition. Reaching our goals requires uniquely talented individuals with a strong desire to grow and achieve – individuals who share the values of passion, innovation, excellence and integrity embedded throughout our organization today.
The Consumer Research & Insights team within Global Consumer Marketing inspires consumer centricity throughout the entire Bose organization. The team helps Bose understand many aspects of consumers, including their passions, problems and unmet needs, product preferences, shopper journey, and communication needs.
Bose's Consumer Research & Insights team is now looking to add a Qualitative Insights Manager. We are looking for an experienced insights professional with a passion for a deep understanding of human needs, attitudes, and behaviors to join our team as you will lead a qualitative insights team of 4, with a mix of junior and senior-level individual contributors. In addition to being a strong researcher with developed research skills, people management experience is a must.
Your team will observe and interview consumers, conduct in-home and in-market fieldwork, study new and emerging uses of audio products, and help us identify problems and desires consumers don’t even know they have yet. You must inspire action from a wide variety of audiences and drive your team to deliver stories, compelling reports, and video montages.
The qualitative insights team specializes in uncovering consumer needs. Whether in-person or virtual, the team’s upstream work ultimately influences a lot of our engineering, product development & marketing. At Bose, we like working managers: helping the business diagnose the real problem and scoping the project, reviewing interview guides, helping conduct consumer interviews, steering the analysis, crafting a compelling story, and communicating with the team’s stakeholders.
You are our ideal candidate if you:
  • Have a natural curiosity about why people think and act as they do and enhance and challenge the business understanding of Bose customer needs.
  • Possess a solid methodological foundation in gathering qualitative insights through ethnography, in-depth interviews, focus groups, online journaling & interviews, and community moderation. You should both enjoy the process of teaching these methods and be adept at explaining why specific techniques are used and when to stakeholders.
  • Can confidently engage and build relationships with company leadership in various functions, including marketing, product management, engineering, sales, and executives, to connect what you know about consumers with what the business should do.
  • Are a talented storyteller, communicating insights in a way that inspires action and gets stakeholders to think differently.
  • Are an innovative thinker around how to use research to solve problems and can help business partners and stakeholders frame research problems into research requests.
  • Can not only manage but inspire people at different points in their careers, enabling them to grow professionally and become better research practitioners.
  • Lead research prioritization of what gets researched and when based on both understanding of business and consumer needs.
  • Within the broader CRI team and as a member of the CRI Management team, you are a great source of collaborative energy and enthusiastic engagement within the team.
  • Seek out new techniques, methodologies, and frameworks to enhance and extend the qualitative insights groups influence within the organization.
This position requires a Bachelors (Master’s degree highly desired) in a relevant field, such as Anthropology, Psychology, or HCI/Human Factors, and at least seven years of industry experience in fieldwork involving consumer products (consumer-electronics experience is particularly beneficial). Proven people management expertise is required, managing people for at least two years.
For this position, you’ll be required to be at the Bose Framingham (US), Bose Tongeren (BE) or Bose Purmerend (NL) offices for a minimum of 2 days a week (Wednesdays & Thursdays), other days are work from home. Occasional travel (10-15%)
