BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the quality control in all materials produced by the Communication department. The proofreader is responsible for being proficient in basic and advanced grammar rules and understanding how they are used within our style guides. Provides quality assurance on all projects.

TYPICAL DUTIES
Reviews content for all communication materials, including but not limited to print, digital, TV and radio in English and Spanish. Makes recommendations as needed for accuracy, correctness and brand consistency.

Ensures utmost correctness, accuracy and quality on the website, including links, speedbumps, correct and proofed content, proper targeting, and trafficking.

Uses strong knowledge and proficiency in basic and advanced grammar rules and understands how they are used within our style guides.

Meticulously reviews copy, noting errors such as punctuation, spelling, and word usage, and knows how to fact-check statements, dates, names, positions, etc., for accuracy or potential plagiarism.

Confirms that all text meets radio timing requirements and web/social media character limitations.

Communicates effectively with the writers and designers and other team members to ensure that copy, design, etc., meets all brand and organization guidelines. Assertively makes suggestions and edits on copy and layouts as necessary.

Become proficient in client branding by staying up to date with all style guides and style updates and changes internally and for GECU third parties.

Fully assesses creative validity and appropriateness for our brand of all design, typography, color, web layout design, print production and image selection.

Works with the Communication team to ensure that the team is using a unified brand and voice for the organization.

Provides translation services as needed.

Maintain and understand compliance to ensure that work complies with GECU’s established policies, procedures and applicable regulations, to include Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Member Identification Program (MIP), and Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC).

Other duties that may be assigned or required in connection with the general operation of the credit union.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the duties performed in the job description, including but not limited to English, Spanish, Liberal Arts, Communication and Business.

One (1) to three (3) years of experience proofreading and editing in an agency, marketing and advertising environment.

Spanish-language proofing experience is required.

Excellent grammar, language, proofreading and communication skills in English and Spanish.

Must be able to work as part of a team.

Proficient in following and adapting to AP Stylebook.

Ability to work effectively under pressure within a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining a positive attitude and remaining detail oriented.

Knowledge of established proofreaders marks, grammar, spelling and advanced computer skills are essential. Mac experience is a plus.

Strong organizational skills, management of diverse project load and excellent communication skills are essential.

Proficient in the use of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications.

Printing and graphics knowledge is a plus.

Possess a strong work ethic and take pride in the quality of work.

A self-starter able to work collaboratively as well as independently.

Requires sitting for the majority of the day, lifting up to 35 pounds, bending, squatting, twisting and kneeling occasionally; reaching above and below shoulder level frequently.

This position requires the employee to work from home but may require onsite onboarding and training.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
Providing quality service is the primary responsibility of this position. Quality service means treating members and coworkers with respect and courtesy at all levels whether in person or by telephone as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Availability Requirements: Monday- Friday: 8:00 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.

After hours and weekends as needed to meet department needs
