Summary:

Project Engineering bridges the boundaries between engineering and project management, leading the technical workers who contribute to the building of our structures and job sites. The Highway Construction Project Engineer is responsible for assisting engineering and construction project managers with the technical disciplines involved in a project. The Project Engineer completes engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elements. S/he will be responsible for implementation of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) which includes purchasing and inventory control. Provide support and direction to operational support staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Responsibilities include schedule preparation, pre-planning and resource forecasting for engineering and other technical activities relating to the project.

· Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management.

· Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements in reviewing bids from contractors.

· Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, company standards and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.

· Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.

· Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems.

· Directs integration of technical activities and products.

· Maintains project schedule and controls project costs by reviewing design, specifications and schedule changes; recommending actions.

· Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions.

· Maintains project data base.

· Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

· Perform projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree; Strong technical background; Engineer in Training (EIT), civil and/or mechanical engineering background preferred.

· Strong analytical skills; very detail oriented and organized.

· Excellent organizational and time management skills; customer service skills; ability to adjust to multiple demands and priorities.

· Ability to prioritize, multi-task, take initiative, and problem solve while maintaining attention to detail.

· Ability to understand and follow instructions; function effectively as part of a team; ability to work under pressure; communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization and the public; perform tasks with little or no supervision.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Strong computer literacy skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Familiarity with AutoCAD and drafting a plus.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, climb, use manual dexterity to operate tools used in the course of work and typical office equipment, hear sufficient to hear conversations in person and via telephone and radio, and vision sufficient for distance sight and to read diagrams, manual reports, rules, regulations, laws, and plans. The employee is occasionally required to reach, push, and pull with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities occurring at the site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
