What we’re looking for:
We are seeking Project Accountant with 3 – 5 years of solid data entry and accounting experience, preferably with a commercial / industrial general contractor experience to join in our success.
What you’ll do:
Primary Function: Perform a variety of accounting tasks related to the collection and processing of cost data required in monitoring construction projects and departmental costs. Works with Project Manager and Field personnel and manager to ensure job cost accounting practices are adhered to as necessary. Work with all levels of company employees to ensure corporate spending policies are adhered to.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Process purchase orders, subcontracts and actual expenditures for input into accounting software as well as the corresponding paperless module.
  • Process vendor / subcontractor invoices for payment by making comparisons to purchase order / subcontract. Compute discounts, make sales/use tax determinations and place invoices in line for payment.
  • Prepare and ensure Notice To Owner partial and final releases are received prior to subcontractor payment.
  • Ensure Certificates of Insurance are current and meet company requirements prior to subcontractor payment.
  • Routinely handle vendor questions and/or issues.
  • Assist in monitoring progress of construction project per cost code to assure adherence to budget, working with Project Managers as required.
  • Assist in preparing special reports and studies requested by the client and / or project management.
  • Develop understanding of company’s current accounting standards and procedures, and thorough knowledge of Sage300 in order to recommend process improvements.
  • Calculate and prepare various comparison reports, charts and tables for project analysis. May generate reports and schedules through job costing / accounting system.
  • Assist with streamlining job cost accounting processes utilizing prior experience.
  • Perform additional assignments per Controller’s direction.
  • Backup for front desk coverage as needed.

Additional Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3-5 years of solid data entry and accounting experience. Strongly prefer job cost accounting experience. Solid understanding of job cost accounting, construction technology software (Sage300 preferred) and spreadsheet software preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills required.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the construction industry including but not limited to subcontractor pay applications, partial / conditional / final lien releases, and insurance requirements.
  • Must be able to interact with all employees and vendors in a calm, professional manner even under difficult situations.
  • Must be a team player and able to easily accept change.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs of weight.
  • Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be present in the office for teamwork and collaboration.
