Job Summary

The Program Coordinator for Student and Industry Development serves as a staff member in the Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management (aka Center for Insurance and Risk Management) and acts as the program coordinator for both industry and student professional development activities. The Program Coordinator may also assist in coordination of networking events.

The Program Coordinator works under the supervision of the Katie School Executive Director, work with and at and the direction of the Katie School Associate Director. The program coordinator will also work with the president of the student organization Gamma Iota Sigma in planning, marketing, communicating, creating, and facilitating, workshops, and speakers coming to campus.


Examples of events the program coordinator would be involved with include, the week-long high school Redbird Risk Management Challenge, the week-long program for insurance financial regulators, the Katie School Annual Symposium, The Katie School Executive Forum, the Katie School Golf Classic, The Katie School Lloyd’s of London program, Katie School Hall of Fame, the Katie School advisory board meetings, Katie School workshops, and Katie School webinars. The program coordinator also works with students to help bring in speakers, and conduct student workshops on topics such as business writing, design thinking, transitioning to the workforce, professional networking, systems thinking, mentoring, etc.


The primary function is to coordinate programs and/or events focused on engaging and collaborating with students and industry. The program coordinator must be proficient in working in teams and be proficient at working with both students and industry practitioners. Goals include student participation and career development preparation of students seeking career success. Illinois State University alumni are also invited to participate in events and the program coordinate would help to arrange that.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

Commensurate with work experience

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s or equivalent in any field (verify with transcripts – may be unofficial)
2. At least five (5) years of full time or (part-time equivalent) professional level work experience which included at least one year of experience in one or more of the following areas: student program planning, student program coordination, developing programs to support career development and/or career readiness objectives for high school students or above.
3. Proven ability to think critically and creatively.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals of diverse cultures and/or backgrounds and collaborate with multiple and diverse constituents to accomplish goals designed to support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
5. Proven ability to develop appropriate alliances with internal and external constituents to deliver events efficiently and effectively

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience conducting program evaluation including the measurement of student learning outcomes.
2. Proven ability to work with administrators, faculty, and staff.
3. Direct experience in instruction and professional development training
4. Direct experience in student education at high school, community college, or university level
5. Willingness to learn new technology to help market the program and make office work more efficiently.
6. Understanding of career development and instruction design.
7. Experience teaching and facilitating student and or industry programs
8. Experience in working with business professionals and organizations.


Work Hours

Core work hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
