General Purpose

The Cost Accountant is a key member of the finance team reporting directly to Plant Controller. The Cost Accountant provides accounting and finance services for plant by analyzing, monitoring, and providing monthly cost and business performance updates and analysis.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for setting up the standard costs for bill of material (BOM), maintenance and updating of items monthly.
  • Instructs or assigns work to cost clerks and accounting clerks engaged in cost or general accounting activities
  • Analyzes actual costs versus standard costs and prepares and presents reports of variances.
  • Performs intercompany accounting procedures by calculating intercompany pricing, creating invoices for intercompany charges, and recording expenditures and product received
  • Updates costs for Materials, Ingredients, Packaging (MIP) and Purchase for Resale (PFR) items
  • Prepares estimates of new or proposed product costs working closely with procurement team and plant administration team
  • Supports routine or ad hoc financial analysis related to significant financial performance variances, product and customer profitability, operating costs, etc.
  • Helps drive process and improvements in WIP and FG inventory management including reducing waste in raw milk and finished goods
  • Manage cream gains tracking and efficiency
  • Supports annual budgeting process including providing product and operating cost data
  • Supports internal and external compliance and audit requirements, including completing market administrator report

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred) in accounting, business, finance, or related field
  • A minimum of 2 years Accounting or finance related experience
  • Minimum of 1-year direct Standard Cost Accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, proficient at Excel.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs, in addition to leading people through change.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all departments, levels within the company, and external stakeholders.
  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment screens (including drug, background, and criminal checks).
