PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT (PA) – FORT IRWIN, CALIFORNIA

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Education: Be a graduate of a Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission for the Physician Assistant or previously recognized accrediting body and acceptable to the Department of the Army.

· Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

· Shall have and maintain a current certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). The PA must continuously maintain NCCPA certification.

· Shall have and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted DEA certificate. Shall possess a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) number as required by state agencies where the provider is licensed. Shall have a minimum of one year of experience within the last three years working as a Physician Assistant.

· Have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. The American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is the only program accepted. BLS recertification shall be maintained in a current status at all times while the HCP is performing services under this contract.

SPECIFIC TASKS FOR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS AND/OR NURSE PRACTITIONER (PA/NP)

· Provide physical examinations and medical treatment as required by the Chief of the Department to which they are assigned. The HCP may be responsible for a regularly appointed clinic, compatible with workload and, in addition, provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur. Providers shall see up to 20 outpatients per day each day they are scheduled to work in clinic.

· Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data appropriate to the patient’s condition.

· Maintain outpatient medical records in accordance with MTF procedures. The PA/NP HCP shall complete each outpatient encounter in AHLTA or other Electronic Medical Recording system at the end of each day or within 72 hours.

· Perform a general physical examination. Record the findings in proper format and determine medical qualifications for various purposes in accordance Army regulations and MTF policies.

· Refer to appropriate specialty clinic only when required for evaluation and/or treatment.

· Provide prescription renewal and telephonic consultative services as needed.

· Perform a wide range of medical duties covering primary care, general internal medicine, pediatrics, newborn care, and gynecology within the scope of their privileges. Many patients have multiple interacting and acute chronic medical problems such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, arthritis and cancer.

· Examine patients, orders and evaluates the full range of radiology and laboratory tests, makes diagnosis and prescribes appropriate treatment to include drugs, inoculations, nursing and dietary care.

· Periodically provide episodic care to patients. Evaluates and treats patients with multiple complicated problems.

· Plan and initiate proper treatment within the PA/NP HCPs defined privileges and the scope of practice of the facility.

· Identify and report those situations and individual cases, which have public health significance and carry out effective control measures.

· Clearly communicate to other healthcare personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.

· Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to physician care.

· Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support in conjunction with physician care.

· Write consults referring patients to specialty clinics. In accordance with scope of practice, administers treatment and therapy in those cases which are minor and simple to the degree that ambulatory, short term treatment is sufficient. Issues temporary profiles according to hospital policy.

· Become familiar with the MTF formulary. Independently prescribes medications from approved formulary. Administers intra-muscular medication, as required. Contract physician extenders authorized to prescribe pharmaceuticals shall do so according to the availability of drugs listed therein. The pharmacy services will provide instructions to all prescribing practitioners regarding substitutions of generic drugs for prescribed drugs. The contract physician extender shall follow the procedures of the MTF when prescribing drugs.

· Rotate through MTF primary care medical clinics for clinical care as required.

· Provide follow-up care as required.

· Refer to On-call physicians for admission.

· May be required to assist with SRP at the MTF or nearby Medical Clinics located on the same installation.

Pay: $134,056.75 - $142,695.53 per year
