WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?


The Hand and Machine Cutter manages and tends to the overall functions of the Cutting Department.
The position entails cutting, shaping, and trimming materials using knives, blades, scissors, hand tools,
power tools, bench-mounted tools, and fabricated machines, specifically the I-9000 computerized
machine. These machines cut, shape, and bend structures and materials.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operating Machine Shop machinery and equipment; reading job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Setting stops and/or adjusting guides and stops to control depths and widths of cuts to a specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template
  • Mark cutting lines around patterns or templates or layouts, using rules and pencils
  • Mark or discard items with defects such as spots, stains, snags, chips, scratches, or unacceptable finishes
  • Position materials and workpieces to locate specified points of cuts or to obtain maximum yields, using rules or patterns
  • Unroll, layout, or mount materials on the cutting table or I-9000 machine
  • Push the button or depressing pedal to activate the machine
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction
  • Measure work piece dimensions to determine the accuracy of machine operation
  • Fold materials after cutting them
  • Mark identification numbers on all products
  • Replace or sharpen dull cutting tools such as saws
  • Route items to provide cutouts for parts using portable routers, grinders, and hand tools
  • Separate materials or products according to size, weight, type, condition, color, or shade
  • Transport workpieces and items to designated work areas using carts
  • Trim excess material off finished products
  • Operate any equipment needed to perform job functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Knowledge and related experience with operating electric hand tools and cutting machinery, specifically the I-9000 cutting machine
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and logic to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE)
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or time-related experience and/or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
