SUMMARY: Migration Winery is seeking the role of a Part-Time Wine Specialist to host our guests on a variety of tasting options, from seated tastings to more intimate and in-depth educational experiences. The ideal candidate will be able to engage, educate, and entertain wine enthusiasts of all levels, have an appreciation for the diverse wine and food culture as well as suggest other luxury offerings within the Napa Valley. This key position for the Visitor Center is hospitality and sales focused – in a fast-paced environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Host engaging, unique, and memorable wine tasting experiences
• Complete Food Safety & Responsible Alcohol Serving Training
• Host party sizes of 1-20 people
• Host up to 3 groups at the same time with ease and finesse
• Educate guests about The Duckhorn Portfolio’s history pertaining to Migration
• Anticipate guest needs and find ways to over-deliver on expectations
• Encourage wine sales after a successful wine tasting
• Use Wine Direct and TOCK to assist with purchases and booking appointments
• Encourage wine club membership and answer questions about club options
• Assist guests with information to restaurants, hotels, and other wineries as needed
• Host Industry, Trade, Elevated, VIP and Auction Pass Winner Tastings
• Knowledgeable in sales goals, focused to assist the department in achieving goals
• Assist with Host duties when asked or needed
• Assist with Retail Assistant duties when asked or needed

Daily Operations

• Opening and closing of winery when management is not present (arm/disarm)
• Assist with the daily tasting room set-up – referring to open duties checklist
• Assist with wine restocking when needed
• Break down and recycle all cardboard and glass bottles
• Monitor and maintain aesthetics of all areas with guest access – eyes of a guest
• Answer phones when necessary for tasting appointments
• Pack wines for walk out sales and pick-up orders
• Assist with shipping orders and pulling physical bottles for orders if needed
• Assist with daily closing duties – referring to closing duties checklist

On-going

• Stay current on recent wine reviews, industry issues
• Follow guest and employee safety guidelines as set forth by management
• Learn about other wineries and their wines; use that information to recommend other wineries with great tasting experiences for our guests
• Actively participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, off-sites and trainings
• Support the Executives, Sales, Events, and Marketing teams as needed
• Adapt and work in other tasting room locations within The Duckhorn Portfolio (Duckhorn and/or Paraduxx)

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 6 months wine industry or hospitality experience
• Knowledge of general winemaking and viticulture techniques or strong willingness to learn
• Ability to acquire specific knowledge of The Duckhorn Portfolio
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to lift 42 pounds, on a repeated basis
• Basic computer skills, including POS and reservation systems
• Flexible schedule to include weekends and some evenings
• Able to stand for long periods of time
