APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications accepted until position(s) filled

JOB DESCRIPTION/REQUIREMENTS: The AES Department at UAH is seeking Part-time Lecturers to teach two undergraduate-graduate level courses in the Spring 2022 semester in our Earth System Science degree program. The focus of one course is on environmental threats as related to policy decision making, while the other class teaches the use of the Python programming language in the Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping and data analysis tool. The course curriculum for both classes is already developed, yet updates to the Python programming component of one class will likely be required given ongoing developments in that computer programming language. Typical enrollments in each class are 15-20 students. The prior instructors for both classes will be available to assist a new Part-time Lecturer on teaching and updating the curriculum content. Master’s Degree or PhD. Prior experience in Earth Science (related to teaching the policy making class), GIS/remote sensing and Python programming (related to teaching the Python-GIS course) is required. Prior teaching experience is highly desired. The courses descriptions are:

(a) Environmental Threats, Public Policy, & Decision Making: Semester Hours: 3. Researchers, policymakers, and environmental campaigners have identified twenty-five potential future threats to the global environment. This course examines the nature and consequences of these threats and their potential impacts for the survival of the human race.

(b) Python for GIS Applications: Semester Hours: 3. Introduction to GIS model building, Python programming, and automation of scripts for ArcGIS. Techniques in Model Builder, Python, and the methods for automation will be taught using data from numerous available data sources across the internet with heavy emphasis on the Earth Sciences.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: If interested in joining the AES Department as a Part-time Lecturer for these classes, please provide a curriculum vitae (CV) plus cover letter detailing your prior teaching experiences, your expertise related to a course, and your enthusiasm for teaching, to the AES Department Chair (aes-chair@uah.edu). Please send the CV and cover letter application as a single PDF formatted file. The AES Department would entertain hiring one Part-time Lecturer to teach both classes for an optimal candidate, which would be double compensated by the stipend.
