At Cocoon House we empower young people, families, and communities in Snohomish County to break the cycle of homelessness through outreach, housing, and prevention, and we are currently looking for a Parent Education & Outreach Coordinator.

The Parent Education and Outreach Coordinator have the opportunity to lead family engagement in hopes of preventing youth homelessness. This position is responsible for the oversight and scheduling of WayOUT seminars, Parenting Classes, and a caseload of 2-5 families/per month. The Coordinator is also responsible for conducting outreach activities that increase the Latino community’s awareness of and ability to access Cocoon House programs.

This position can provide a flexible work schedule with some evening hours and at least one weekend each month. There will be regular evening hours as late as 8pm to meet families scheduling needs - not to exceed 40 hours a work week.

Our Parent Education & Outreach Coordinator...

  • Facilitates and coordinates parenting classes, support groups and WayOUT seminars. Recruits community volunteers to assist with facilitation and functions.
  • Builds relationships with community partners
  • Builds a caseload and gathers community resources for families in Snohomish County
  • Schedules and leads WayOUT Advisory Council meetings, at least biannually. Recruits advisory council members to attend the Advisory Council meetings and support WayOUT.
  • Schedules parenting classes throughout Snohomish County and ensures they are available in both English and Spanish in partnership with the Prevention team, as needed. Ensures all classes have well-trained facilitators – recruits and trains as necessary. Coordinates with community partners who host parenting classes.
  • Communicates directly with other providers to coordinate care and conduct wrap-around meetings.
  • Provides low-barrier support for families through phone calls and drop-in services.
  • Makes referrals to our Prevention Family Advocates if case management is needed.
  • Provides outreach to families across Snohomish County, with an emphasis on Latino families, to promote Cocoon House programs, with an emphasis on Prevention, with a minimum of 2 outreach activities per month.
  • Collects needed demographics and other information from attendees and completes all data entry associated with parenting classes and drop-in sessions in a complete and timely manner.
  • Supports other Cocoon House programs to increase staff knowledge around family engagement and Prevention work as needed.
  • Assists the Director of Family Engagement in training Cocoon House staff in best practices in working with families.
  • Has a strong commitment to being a part of Cocoon House’s equity, diversity and inclusion work.

Pay Scale:

$23-25 DOE

Requirements:

General:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Clear a background check with DCYF.
  • Possess a valid Washington State driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation.

Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience working in human services with at least one year of experience with parents of teens and one year with youth and young adults and facilitation experience preferred.
  • Strong and effective communication skills; proficiency in crisis intervention/de-escalation.
  • Knowledge of street culture, adolescent development, and strengths-based approaches preferred.
  • Individuals with lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all internal and external clients
  • Be able to hear voices and alarms.
  • Ability to read and comprehend a variety of materials
  • Ability to operate phone, computer, and record information for files and logs
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 Ibs
