Position: Parent and Family Navigator


Position Summary:
Assist parents and families of students who have experienced homelessness with case management services. Help families with accessing housing, mental and behavioral health services, food, and accessing medical assistance.


Reports to:
Director of Student Services and McKinney-Vento Liaison


Education, Certification, and Experience:

  • Mental Health Background
  • Social Worker or Psychology student or graduate


Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication Skills
  • Excellent human relations skills and experience with counseling yoga
  • Familiarity with local resources and completing applications for housing, food services, medical assistance, etc.
  • Familiarity with local youth services
  • Background in social work or other mental health services


Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Provide social work case management for students and families.
  • Identifies and assesses barriers to housing and help families work through those barriers, establish housing for families.
  • Serves as a liaison between families and the school to help students and encourage parent/guardian participation in the school setting.
  • Provides parent/guardian educational workshops on identified issues related to child development, stress reduction, discipline, safety, and teach/parent/student communication, as assigned.
  • Help parents find summer programming and services for students.

Physical Demands:

Position requires significant periods of walking and standing.


Unusual Demands:

May be subject to a flexible work schedule.


Terms of Employment:

Eleven (11) month position; $42.00 per hour; Grant funded position thru September 30, 2023

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.

Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
