Job Description

Career Recruiting Specialists is partners with a major paper mill located in the Ashland, VA area. This company was founded in 1964, and produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products that are composed mainly of recycled fibers. The Company employs 11,000 employees, who work in more than 90 production units located in North America and Europe. This is a new start-up company with only state of the are equipment.

We are seeking an experienced tissue mill asset leader with a minimum of 5 years of experience in this role and environment. This company offers competitive benefits and compensation.

Summary

The Asset Leader is responsible for setting the vision for the Asset, driving advancement in all areas including Safety, People, Quality and Delivery. You will lead a multi-functional work team and support resources that have the responsibility to maintain operations on a rotating shift schedule while developing your team members and driving continuous improvement of the asset base. Effective partnerships with key customers, suppliers and product development resources are essential elements of the position responsibilities. You will have approximately 50 hourly technicians and 1 - 5 salaried team members

Responsibilities:

  • Actively demonstrate Environmental, Health and Safety as a value for all activities. Influence mindsets to identify and address risks within each task while ensuring compliance with regulations, corporate policies, and plant guidelines.
  • Establish plans to deliver and continuously improve key performance indicators in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People Development. Provide leadership, supervision, and coordination to ensure that crews establish and sustain respective standards
  • Develop plans to continuously build technician capability through coaching and functional leader career development.
  • Lead lean capability development and utilization of lean tools; continuously evolve the Daily Accountability Process, Standard Work, OPEX & Leader Standard Work.
  • Provide effective leadership and supervision for maintenance work performed and/or mechanical process changes made in their area of responsibility to ensure the least possible amount of downtime and ensure efficient operations.
  • Evaluate recommendations from engineering sources for product or process innovations to ensure changes are compatible with operating goals.
  • Develop and ensure the implementation of special plant and corporate projects to meet cost management objectives, increase company profitability, and meet changing production requirements.
  • Ensure the effective application of internal control systems and procedures by providing leadership and support for the implementation, maintenance, and audit of corporate and plant internal control policies, instructions, and procedures.
  • Develop and lead system, process, and standard improvements in operations. Provide leadership of focused improvements to both aid in building peer capability and effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership to ensure the organization attracts, develops, and retains the best people and fosters an environment which motivates a diverse team to fully use its capabilities in achieving the desired business results.
  • Contribute to an environment in which all team members are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve both their individual and team contributions to achieve business objectives.
  • Comply with the standards and requirements of the Mills EHS Management System

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:

  • Requires knowledge and ability associated with a Bachelor’s Degree (Chemical Engineering would be a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Safety requirements and EHS systems and standards.
  • Broad knowledge and significant experience in operations, engineering or project management.
  • Ability to provide coaching for performance and career development to both the Hourly and Salaried teams.
  • Ability to manage vendor/supplier relationships in a positive cost-effective manner.
  • Managed in an environment where success was achieved more through leading others than possessing technical knowledge.
  • Managed to a planning horizon of one year or more.
  • Lean experience with Strategy Deployment, 4-step problem solving, visual management, TPM and 5S.
  • Able to confront problems and handle conflict
  • Able to problem solve and set priorities and generate new ideas and improved ways of working while maintaining effective control.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Tissue / paper mill experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in a high-speed industrial manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience in a leadership/supervisory position preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience with high-speed converting processes and equipment in a plant support role
  • 2+ years’ experience in a leadership/supervisory position preferred.
  • Experienced with LEAN Manufacturing and problem solving
  • Worked in High Performance Work System.
  • Full working knowledge of ISO.
  • Have understanding of “Full Potential Thinking” and Cost Transformation activities. Lean experience with Strategy Deployment, 4-step problem solving, visual management, TPM and 5S.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
