ABB is hiring for an Optimization Engineer located in either Westerville, Ohio, Cleveland, Ohio, or even remote locations (with manageable access to major airports)”, you will plan, conduct, or coordinate a wide range of highly complex engineering activities encompassing one or more engineering disciplines. You will work as part of our Advanced Digital Services team in the Optimization group with a focus on the Process Automation industry. Specific background in one or more of the following industries is strongly preferred including: pulp & paper, chemical, oil & gas, or steam and power generation. The ideal candidate will have experience in the process automation industry, understand the details of process dynamics with notable control experience, be willing to learn additional advanced techniques and be self-motivated.

Your responsibilities

  • Utilize Advanced Digital Service tools to analyze all aspect of a specific process area performance and develop recommendations
  • Use statistical methods to determine process area metrics and areas for improvements
  • Travel to site and collect specific data to perform analysis
  • Perform control tuning and implementation services for both APC (advanced process control) as well as PID control applications
  • Lead, promote and implement best in industry Optimization and control tuning services
  • Develop recommendations based on sound engineering practices and business considerations
  • Serve as process control consultant to management and major customers regarding advanced technical studies, their potential application, and the resolution of complex problems
  • Proactively develop and implement measures to improve operations and customer satisfaction
  • Write detailed reports on analysis and control tuning
  • Develop and teach control applications, analysis tools and service delivery methods classes
  • Be a mentor and leader in Digitally provided services including but not limited to APC, alarm management, and loop performance monitoring
  • Establish schedules and resource requirements for major engineering projects. Conduct or direct and coordinate critical aspects of projects and serve as technical advisor to management as well as customers. Determine most effective means of accomplishing objectives and coordinate related engineering activities. Develop and introduce actions designed to promote customer satisfaction
  • Plan, conduct, coordinate and develop recommendations regarding varied analytical studies such as application of advanced engineering concepts and processes related to process control. Analyze engineering and business aspects of proposed programs, develop proposals, and coordinate associated activities
  • Serve as technical consultant, advisor, and spokesperson for the organization on highly significant matters and exert considerable influence regarding focus and direction of engineering activities as related to process control diagnostics and tuning. Negotiate with customers, matters of considerable significance that may impact current and future business, and assist them to optimize their operations by such means as improving their costs, quality, and processes
  • Design and develop highly complex models or simulations of continuous systems and processes, and conduct independent engineering studies encompassing sophisticated analytical techniques, novel and unconventional approaches. Analyze new proposals, requirements, specifications, and products. Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technology, anticipate market trends and customer requirements, and propose responsive actions
  • Document and present clearly and concisely technical and financial findings and recommendations to gain customer and management acceptance and to help grow the service business
  • Publish papers to promote ABB service model and service products. Identify new Intellectual Properties and secure protection for the Intellectual Properties

Your background

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering required
  • With minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
