Austin Eye is an ophthalmology/eye surgeon practice providing state-of-the-art eye care and eye surgery for the Austin community.

Our ophthalmic technicians serve as ophthalmologist-extenders that help us fulfill our mission to provide the very best care and experience for our patients.

The ophthalmic technician's primary responsibilities:

  • Obtaining basic medical history information and present medical conditions
  • Measuring each patient's visual acuity
  • Administering a wide array of diagnostic tests to determine the structure and function of each patient's eye for both regular and surgical examinations
  • Our technicians will be trained to work closely with our patients to help educate them about the condition of their eyes as assessed by our ophthalmologists and optometrist and to counsel the patients on their options for vision correction.
  • Preparing patients' electronic medical records, working with patients' medical insurance plans, and completing financial transactions and patients' scheduling needs.
  • Performing various administrative tasks such as completing preoperative forms with patients, triaging phone calls, contacting pharmacies, managing inventory and scanning documents
  • Serving as a scribe for the doctor during examinations in the electronic health record

We will also train you to help care for our patients' needs for glasses and contact lenses. We will introduce you to the world of eye surgery such as laser vision correction and cataract surgery. Training to assist the eye surgeons in these procedures is an opportunity available to individuals in this position.

The ophthalmic technician will often be the first and the last impression that each patient has within our office. Our goal is to provide the best patient experience for each individual who contacts our office. We will train and assist you to perform your job to the highest standard. The opportunity to learn and work with all facets of our ophthalmology practice exists for the right individual.

This position is best suited to someone who has excellent communication skills, a high emotional intelligence, enjoys staying busy throughout the day, can multi-task, is detail-oriented, enjoys working with people of all ages, and who enjoys working with people in-general. We need you to be personable, reliable, and honest. College bachelors degree required. This individual must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills and learn how to interface with medical software and equipment.

Our office hours are Monday-Thursday, 8a-6p, Fridays 8 am - Noon. No weekends. We have two office locations: Central and Northwest Austin.
