One Year Visiting Assistant Professor of Graphic Design

Otterbein University, a comprehensive liberal arts institution, invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in the area of graphic design.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The expected teaching load for this position is seven courses, distributed over a two-term academic year. Teaching responsibilities include beginning and advanced graphic design, illustration, a 2-dimensional design foundations course, and a course in the Integrative Studies General Education program. Beyond successful teaching, the occupant of this position will have departmental service responsibilities including recruitment and mentoring. They will also be responsible for managing and maintaining the graphic design lab and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

M.F.A. in a relevant field of study by the start of appointment. Terminal degree required for appointment as Assistant Professor. Area of Specialization: Graphic Design. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence in the liberal arts tradition, possess an active exhibition record or list of client-based work, and value the opportunity to mentor a talented and diverse body of students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:* Ability to incorporate animation, social media, internet/computational art, or other emerging technologies into courses.

COMPENSATION:* For the rank of Assistant Professor - $54,500 (plus full University benefits)
DEPARTMENT: The Department of Art and Art History, composed of seven full-time and four part-time faculty, offers a major in Art (B.A. and B.F.A.) with concentrations in Ceramics, Drawing, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, and Video Art. We also feature a major and minor in Art History. Minors in Studio Art and Photography are also offered. The mission of the department is to offer studio and art history programs linked to the University’s liberal arts foundation, preparing graduates for a variety of professional options. Additionally, the department is committed to offering visual arts courses that complement the liberal education of all students at Otterbein.
