The Occupational Therapist role facilitates the development and rehabilitation of students with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities by planning and administering occupational therapy.

Some of your daily responsibilities are:
  • Provide OT services for students who have the need identified in their Individualized Education Plans.
  • Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual’s physical capacity, intelligence
level, and interest.
  • Evaluates results of occupational therapy by observing, noting and evaluating students’ progress; recommends and
implements adjustments and modifications.
  • Consults with teachers, direct care staff, BCBAs, OTs, SLPs, PTs, a nurse and other clinical and leadership staff;
contributes to student conferences.

The Devereux Center for Autism Research and Education Services (CARES) is an educational program licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that provides services to students, ages five to 21, diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. CARES provides an environment that focuses on teaching each student based on his or her unique strengths and needs. Programming is focused on increasing independence for each student, particularly in the areas of: Communication, Social skills, Self-care routines, Community inclusion, Recreation and leisure, Domestic skills, Self-determination and Employment.

Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services (DPACS)
center serves children, adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral, emotional and psychiatric challenges and disorders. Located in West Chester and Malvern Pennsylvania, services provided include psychiatric residential treatment (PRTF), residential treatment (RTF), acute inpatient psychiatric hospital (AIP), assessment services, community-based mental health services, community-based employment training and social skills training, and approved private school educational services to male and female children and adolescents (6-21 years of age) with diagnoses of intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, concomitant psychiatric and behavioral challenges often associated with experiencing some level of trauma in their lives.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), licensure by the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required and bachelor’s degree required.

EXPERIENCE
: Six months of related field experience required; one year preferred. Proficient computer skills, mastery of
Microsoft Office Applications, experience with data collection/analyzing platforms (Radar, Pro-Filer, and/or other internal
and external software applications pertinent to the position). Strong organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication
skills. Requires ability to work independently.

Devereux requires all individuals interviewing for a position involving contact with children to complete The Diana Screen, a screening that assesses a candidate’s understanding of appropriate boundaries between adults and children
