This role is responsible for the design of HVAC and plumbing systems for our building design projects as well as the production of all plans and specifications associated with that design; this position also actively participates in construction phase services.

THE MECHANICAL/PLUMBING ENGINEER / DESIGNER AT CPL

As a senior member of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering team, the Mechanical/Plumbing Engineer / Designer uses computer-aided software to develop conceptual designs for building projects across our diverse practice areas.

Reporting to a Project Manager, you interact closely with team leadership to complete construction phase services in a timely manner, making site visits to document existing methodologies as needed. Years of experience, masterful comprehension of assorted codes and standards and elevated problem-solving skills make you an asset to the entire CPL team.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • You’re proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, ComCheck and Trane TRACE 3D Plus
  • You have a demonstrated and thorough knowledge of applicable codes and standards – mechanical and energy codes, American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards, etc.
  • You have excellent analytical and technical capabilities
  • You have robust interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, encompassing public speaking
  • You’re highly organized, and details are never lost on you
  • You earned an AS in a technical field of study from an accredited institution and have at least eight (8) years of related experience
  • A BS in mechanical engineering – with five (5) years of experience designing HVAC systems – is strongly preferred
  • Experience designing air handling systems, ductwork design, hydronic systems, chilled water systems, HVAC systems, or plumbing/fire protection systems is a major plus
  • An EIT license (on track to become a professional engineer) or professional licensure is also a major plus

CORE DUTIES

  • Make project site visits to document existing systems and gather existing owner documentation
  • Develop conceptual designs; select equipment; perform calculations and energy audits; and prepare design drawings and specifications for HVAC system projects
  • Complete construction phase services, including submittal reviews and punch lists
  • Interact closely with architects and electrical/structural engineers throughout all project phases
  • Work with the designated design team to create design sketches, layouts and plans
  • Utilize computer-assisted design software to prepare preliminary drawings
  • Perform building condition evaluations and prepare reports
  • Perform energy code compliance analyses using ComCheck software
