ABOUT POLAR FIELD SERVICES, INC.

We are a rare company. Since 1999, we've been taking our clients wherever they need to go, no matter how remote the location or challenging the conditions may be. We plan their expeditions, keep them safe in places that are anything but, and supply food, shelter, power, water, and waste removal. We then return the site to such a pristine condition no one would ever know we were there. We haven't been everywhere. Just a lot of places most people haven't.

Our team is made up of skilled people who are passionate about supporting cutting-edge science and making a difference in our world. As thanks for their courage and hard work, we offer excellent compensation and outstanding benefits. We take our jobs seriously, but our company culture is relaxed, dog-friendly, and casually dressed. We are looking to add more adventurous souls to our team!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A NETWORK ENGINEER / NOC ENGINEER

As a Network Engineer / NOC Engineer, you are a valuable support on the X Moonshot project, Taara, which has the goal of extending high-speed broadband by using free space optical communication (FSOC). FSOC is wireless communication that uses light to transmit high-speed data between two points. Taara hopes to develop FSOC technology into a useful tool in the telecommunications industry, especially in under-connected communities and developing countries.

Your job is to help Taara's research and development team make continuous improvements on this technology by performing technical analysis of problems as they occur. Each day, you identify, research, and troubleshoot issues until you reach a resolution, often acting as tier 2 - 3 support within the network operations team. A self-starter, you keep current on the technologies Taara uses and are adept at prioritizing the most crucial issues to address.

You also assist the early customers who adopt this technology. In doing so, you work closely with the deployment team to evaluate, install, integrate, troubleshoot, and maintain various wireless technologies. Occasionally, you travel internationally to support Taara's customers in their installations. A problem solver at heart, you are in your element as you address any challenges that arise. Using your excellent communication skills, you clearly explain and illustrate technical information as Taara's customers implement this new technology into their lives. You enjoy your interactions with them and love using your expertise to solve critical issues in our world!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A NETWORK ENGINEER / NOC ENGINEER

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or physics
  • 5+ years of IT network administration or telecommunication experience
  • Broad understanding of network information systems, focusing on layers 1,2, and 3 of the OSI model
  • Experience working with physical network systems, configurations, and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver's license and a US Passport
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time

A master's degree is preferred. Current CPR, wilderness first aid, or wilderness first responder certification would be a plus. Additional experience or technical certifications would also be a plus. Do you have excellent communication and customer service skills? Are you an efficient organizer and project manager? Do you remain cool and collected in high-stress situations? Can you treat confidential customer information with discretion? If yes, you might just be perfect for this IT position!
