Job overview

Metallurgical Lab Technicians are responsible for providing the proper preparation and metallography examination of samples of various coating, brazing, and welded samples to customer requirements. Metallurgical Lab Technician must be detail oriented and can maintain the highest quality standards. As this position is posted for an off shift, the successful candidate must be able to thrive with little direction on process or workload.

Responsibilities

• Preparation and evaluation of cubicle qualification samples (Tab samples)
• Preparation and evaluation of sample parts and customer hardware (Part cut ups)
• Preparation and evaluation of physical properties (e.g. Hardness – Micro and Macro)
• Performs set-ups, and operates a variety of standard lab equipment, adhering to prescribed methods of operation
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Calibration and maintenance of lab equipment
• Order all Met Lab supplies including polishing suspensions, grit paper, etc.
• Performs quality evaluations of standard coatings in a timely manner, identifying problem areas and reporting results to appropriate individuals
• Run lab in a manner consistent with the allowable yearly budget
• Accurate record keeping for all of the above.
• Other Duties Assigned

• High School Diploma/GED is required
• Must be able to complete Praxair Metallurgical Technician Training and maintain certification
• Must be able to perform quality evaluations of standard coatings and basic investigations into metallurgical issues at a level typically acquired through a minimum of 5 years' related lab experience
• Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of tools, Specifically Word, Excel, Power Point.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to keep and maintain neat, accurate and thorough records
• Self-motivated with the ability to self-manage (set and achieve goals) and work with limited supervision
• Near Vision Acuity of 20/30 (Correction allowed)

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of ISO9001 & AS9100 Quality Management systems
• Running/managing a met lab
  • Metcut Certified
  • NDT Level 2 LP
• Specific Equipment Experience desired:
  • Sectioning and Mounting
  • Polishing/Grinding
  • Hardness Testing (Micro and Macro)
  • Optical Microscopes and Image Analysis
