Job Summary

The Mentoring Success Coach (MSC) will be responsible for implementing BGCWPA’s Great Futures Solutions program across multiple locations in Allegheny County. This program focuses on violence prevention by providing mental health supports and mentoring programs to teens in areas with a high prevalence of violence. The MSC understands the demographics of under-served communities and the need for access to high quality and culturally responsive prevention programming and education. This MSC will be the lead case manager for 40-50 teens with a focus on connecting teens with BGCWPA mentoring programs and Vitable Health’s mental health services, communicating with families and schools, and support the implementation of mentoring programs.

Responsibilities

Management and Supervision

  • Serve as the lead case manager for 40-50 teens, connect teens to BGCWPA’s mentoring programs and Vitable Health’s services, manage case files, update progress reports and serve as the main point of contact for families
  • Support program design and develop curricula that help youth build skills and put them on a pathway to success.
  • Support data collection efforts as part of the program’s evaluation plan
  • Facilitate interaction with community-based organizations such as schools and social service agencies to enhance the understanding of system initiatives and priorities and to elicit support and assistance in spreading the mission of BGCWPA programming and continuously acquire opportunities for youth to participate in real world learning scenarios and projects
  • Support implementation of BGCWPA’s mentoring programs
  • Support recruitment efforts for the program in conjunction with the Teen Team and Advancement
  • Promote active and broad participation by community partners, volunteers and staff in all areas of the organization's work.
  • Maintain official records and documents, and help ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the project field.
  • Focus on enhancing program design, partner collaboration, scopes of work and associated budgets that will result in grant applications submitted, to sustain and expand programming.
  • Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse and top quality staff.

Communication

  • Ensure that the Program Manager and Director are kept fully informed on project progress and all important factors influencing it.
  • Publicize the goals, activities and outcomes of the initiatives with the support of the Program Director.
  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
  • Represent the programs and the organization to agencies, organizations, teens, families and the general public.
  • Support communication with families in relation to programs and services, addressing issues or concerns and assist with connecting youth and families to services and programs outside of BGCWPA’s scope of work

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a focus on Social Work, Education, Human Services, Sociology or related field; or at least 2 years of related experience in social work, case management, prevention programs, human services or youth development
  • Knowledge of positive youth development with an ability to design learning strategies and programs to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities for youth
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of mental health care services, trauma informed care, and referral resources.
  • Excellent assessment, case management, crisis intervention, interpersonal, conflict mediation, and communication skills.
  • Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies
  • Advanced positive customer service skills needed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Local travel required
  • 3 letters of Reference needed upon hiring
  • Clearances Act 33, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR letter.
  • Mandated Reporter Certification within 30 days of hire
  • Attend CPR, Pediatric First Aid training.
  • Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills are a must
  • Proficient in Google Suite.
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs function require the following physical demands: lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing, any/or pulling, climbing to include steps, balancing, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and signification fine fingered dexterity. Ability to tolerate environmental conditions: air conditioning, heat, dust fumes, noise, close quarters, etc.
  • Perform all additional duties and tasks assigned by leadership/supervisors.

Certifications and Clearances

CPR, Pediatric First Aid, Child Abuse, Criminal History, FBI clearance, NSOR certificate, PA Disclosure and Mandated Reporter certification required upon hire or newer then 6 months.

PA Staff Health Assessment and TB Test must be submitted upon hire and before start date.
