Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is an 881-bed quaternary care academic medical center that is a joint venture between Baylor College of Medicine and CHI St. Luke’s Health. Located in the Texas Medical Center, the hospital is the home of the Texas Heart® Institute, a cardiovascular research and education institution founded in 1962 by Denton A. Cooley, MD. The hospital was the first facility in Texas and the Southwest designated a Magnet® hospital for Nursing Excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, receiving the award five consecutive times. Baylor St. Luke’s also has three community emergency centers offering adult and pediatric care for the Greater Houston area. Nurse residency seats for Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center are primarily awarded for acute care units with some select critical care unit avaiability.

Graduate nurses are welcomed from all over the country with the next cohort beginning Summer 2023. (Relocation bonus available!) The Nurse Residency Program (NRP) is designed to support the new graduate during the transition from the student role to the licensed Registered Nurse (RN) role. The organization is currently offering a $10,000 Sign On Bonus!

Responsibilities

All St. Luke's Health nurse residents receive ongoing professional and educational support from a team of education specialists, nursing leaders, preceptors and mentors. At the conclusion of the first year in practice, nurse residents report enhanced self-confidence in providing excellent patient care and function with practice that is in alignment with the CHI St. Luke’s mission, vision and values. Former nurse residents also serve as mentors and unit leaders, sit on a variety of nursing councils and many are seeking advanced degrees and certifications.

Graduate Nurse Resident are responsible for the delivery of excellence in patient care through assessing, formulating nursing diagnoses and establishing goals, planning and implementing intervention, and evaluating patient care outcomes.

Qualifications

The Nurse Residency Program is open to:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with an unencumbered license from the Texas Board of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required for Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center.
  • Educated at an accredited school of nursing with a preferred 3.0 grade point average
  • AHA BLS
  • Less than 12 months of professional nursing experience
  • The program is designed to be one year in length.

Pay Range
$33.00 - $52.80 /hour
