ABOUT THE ROLE

The MA/LPN is a key part of our clinical team and is responsible for supporting Dr. Dexter, Dr. Yelverton, and Alexa Kinder PA-C during patient appointments and coordinating patient care. The MA/LPN reports to the Practice Supervisor and is responsible for:

  • Preparing patients charts ahead of appointments and obtaining necessary records
  • Rooming patients and collecting vitals
  • Entering patients' vitals and medical history into EMR system (Cerner)
  • Presenting patients to the physicians (i.e., chief complaint, medical history, etc.)
  • Preparing exam rooms for in-office procedures
  • Assistant physicians during in-office procedures
  • Answering nurse line and addressing patients' clinical concerns appropriately
  • Documenting patient conversations into EMR system
  • Referring patients for physician consults, labs, and imaging as ordered by the physicians
  • Obtaining testing authorizations from insurance companies as appropriate
  • Scanning external records, progress notes, lab/imaging results, and other clinical documents into EMR system
  • Re-stocking exam rooms with supplies
  • Ordering medical supplies from our approved vendors
  • Completing other clinical and administrative tasks as assigned by supervisor

This position is based out of Lakewood Ranch Medical Group - General Surgery located at 8340 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Suite #290, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Licensing, & Skills

  • MA/LPN certification - required
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) - a plus

Experience

  • 2+ years of experience as an MA/LPN – required
  • 1+ year of experience in a surgical office - preferred
  • 1+ year of insurance verification - a plus

ABOUT OUR OFFICE

Lakewood Ranch Medical Group - General Surgery is the office of Dr. David Dexter, Dr. Samuel Yelverton, and Alexa Kinder PA-C.

Dr. Dexter is board certified in General Surgery and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Dexter performs all aspects of general surgery, but has particular skills in minimally invasive and daVinci® robotic surgery. Dr. Dexter earned his medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University College of Medicine in Syracuse. He completed his General Surgery Residency at the Wright State University and Wright-Patterson USAF Integrated Surgical Residency in Dayton, Ohio. He also served on active duty as a General Surgeon at Wright-Patterson U.S. Air Force Medical Center. Dr. Dexter comes to our area after serving as a Trauma and General Surgeon in Erie, Pennsylvania, for 20 years.

Dr. Yelverton earned his Bachelor of Science from Mississippi College and his Doctor of Medicine from The University of Mississippi School of Medicine. Dr. Yelverton then completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is currently a member of the American College of Surgeons.

Alexa Kinder PA-C is a graduate of the Florida State University School of Physician Assistant Practice Inaugural class of 2019. She is very interested in whole body wellness through nutrition, exercise, and preventative care.
