is seeking energetic, hardworking Engineering graduate students and entry level Engineers with an interest in the generation of electric power for the electric power industry.

Duke Energy’s Intercession City Combustion Turbine Plant located in Davenport, Florida
. This position will also require regular travel to
Duke Energy's Debary Combustion Turbine Plant located in Debary, Florida.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supports the mechanical projects and troubleshooting needs of the North and Central CT sites at Intercession City and Debary
  • Provides mechanical engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise
  • Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems
  • Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
  • Maintains accurate records and files
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ENGINEER LEVEL I POSITION:
  • High School/GED
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • In lieu of Bachelor of Science degree, Master’s degree in Engineering
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • EIT/PE Experience
  • Simple Cycle Experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Experience with standard power generation equipment (low/medium voltage breakers, generators, transformers, motors, inverters, drives, switchgear, motor control centers, cable, isophase bus, non-segregated bus, etc.)
  • Knowledge of fundamental mechanical engineering concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Ability to utilize basic engineering practices (including researching design issues) to evaluate and present on alternative design recommendations
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam
  • Proficient in principles of project management.
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to analyze processes and equipment through historical data systems
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Applications and Maximo (maintenance management system)
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Valid Drivers License required
  • Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, Audiometric and Respirator Clearance Examination
  • This position requires regular travel to work on projects at the North and Central CT sites at Intercession City and Debary
  • Perform work in a power plant by operating equipment and office environment
  • Required to observe and work in all areas of the generating facility which are power plant - industrial environments Monday-Friday but schedule is subject to change
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, noisy and/or other hazards
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, appropriate clothing, ear plugs, fall protection, etc.), as needed
  • Occasional mildly strenuous physical activity (extensive walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs/ladders, etc.)
  • Ability to lift 25 - 75 pounds
  • Ability to work at heights and from suspended work platforms
