High School Marlborough Evening Teams Accelerated Studies (METAS) Academy Teachers:

2023-2024 School Year


Effective Dates of Employment:

First Semester Work (anticipated): August 2023 - January 2024

Second Semester Work (anticipated): January 2024 - June 2024

Schedule Includes Tuesday and Thursday Evenings, 90-minute instructional period between 4:00-9:00 (4:00-5:30, 6:00-7:30, or 7:30-9:00). Teachers in the program will also attend planning and ongoing program meetings.


Compensation:

$4,320.00 Stipend per course, per semester

Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:

Works under the supervision of the Director of Alternative Education and the Director of English Language Education


Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and consistently monitor goals and objectives for an dwith students
  • Assist in assessment of students considered for Alternate Pathway to Graduation
  • Work collaboratively using SEI strategies and pedagogy
  • Provide a positive structured environment, addressing appropriate Mathematics, Science or ELD and ELA standards as appropriate for specific position
  • Provide a positive learning environment for all students in the program
  • Communicate regularly with parents of students in order to develop a strong home/school partnership
  • Participate in on-going planning, implementing, and evaluation of curriculum
  • Carry out daily responsibilities of the classroom in person with students
  • Attend program meetings including, but not limited to, a regular standard program monthly meeting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Alternative Education, building Principal, Director of ELE, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Learning or the Superintendent of Schools


Qualifications:

  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education as a Teacher as appropriate for Specific Position (Mathematics, Grades 9-12; Science (Biology) Grades 9-12; or ESL OR EL covering Grades 9-12)
  • SEI endorsement required
  • Bachelor’s or higher earned academic degree
  • Demonstrated ability and strength in working with English learners
  • Demonstrated ability to working with students with limited or interrupted schooling (SLIFE)
  • Ability to effectively communicate in Spanish and/or Portuguese a plus but not required
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Candidates for ELD Teacher position must also include evidence of training in the following areas:
  • Knowledge of language learning, standards-based curriculum, alternative method of assessment.
  • Familiarity with WIDA English Language Development Standards
  • Assessment of students in/for English Language Learner Program
  • Familiarity with DESE ESL MCUs a plus, but not required
