Job description

Under direct supervision of the Aquatics Recreation Supervisor and/or Aquatics Recreation Coordinator, a Lifeguard is responsible for the health and safety of pool participants through careful observation of the pools and surrounding areas, quick response to emergency situations, and enforcing pool rules in connection with the prevention of accidents and providing emergency intervention as required.

• Maintain and advocate for the safety of any person using the City's Municipal pools (Hilliard Family Aquatic Center and/or Clyde "Butch" Seidle Community Pool).
• Scan and monitor all patrons in swimming pools and respond immediately in the event of an emergency.
• Safeguard and regulate conduct of pool patrons.
• Possess thorough knowledge and consistent enforcement of pool policies, rules and regulations, in connection with preventing accidents and injuries.
• Rescue patrons and provide emergency intervention while following proper protocol.
• Utilize equipment in the performance of first aid and emergency response.
• Clear all swimmers from pools according to the pool procedures for inclement weather, emergencies, rest periods, and closings.
• Provide professional and courteous service to all patrons.
• Remain undistracted from their primary area of responsibility for patron's safety.
• Staffing programs such as swim lessons and special events as required.
• Processing and receiving payments in the form of both cash and credit.
• Assist with pool maintenance and cleanliness to include opening and closing procedures, cleaning duties, and supervision during hourly rest periods/adult swim time.
• Attend required training with a minimum of 12 hours of in-service training per season for which they are hired, and maintaining all required certifications.
• Interact with the public and respond to customer inquiries. Research and resolve issues, as necessary.
• Assist with departmental special events.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, Recreation Program Managers, Deputy Director of Recreation and Parks, or the Director of Recreation and Parks or their designee.
