Summary:

Penguin Computing Managed Services provides dedicated support for complex, integrated environments involving high-performance computing, cloud, and enterprise systems. This role provides leadership and direction to the on-site post-sales technical support team of hardware, systems, sub-systems and/or applications for a major customer who has deployed a significant Penguin HPC/AI cluster. Successful candidates must have strong technical capabilities, excellent communication skills, a friendly demeanor, the ability to work with others, and to remain calm, focused, and organized. Attention to detail is a key requirement for this role given the scope, scale and critical nature of the system and use case.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily analysis of tasks, progress, and trends to properly allocate the team’s attention on the highest priority items.
  • Maintain and deliver daily updates on cluster health, node availability and task status in the form of online system updates, spreadsheets, and written reports/communications.
  • Answer customer questions about installation, operation, system administration, networking configuration, customization, and usage of relevant products.
  • Apply diagnostic techniques to identify problems, investigate causes and recommend solutions to correct common failures.
  • Participate in the onboarding and training of new technicians on the team – and in the ongoing development of existing team members to support their career development to more senior levels of capability.
  • Collaborate regularly with both the customer and Penguin DevOps (software) resources to collaborate on issue resolution
  • Participate in the deployment of new technologies – and new cluster environments within the customer’s data center environment.
  • Escalates complex issues as needed to Penguin’s Engineering staff or DevOps resources.
  • Provide updates to the problem request/management tracking system.
  • Update customers on issue resolution, node repair and RMA status.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • RHCSA or equivalent Linux Certification
  • Network, Storage, Cloud, or DevOps Certification
  • 4 Year Computer Science or Engineering Degree
  • Project Management, Scrum Master, of Leadership Certification

Experience/Education:

  • Is skillful in providing effective written and verbal communications to internal and external teams.
  • 8 years experience working with internal and/or external clients. Is keenly aware of customer expectations and is able to deliver the same and promote an environment of confidence in delivery.
  • Attentive listener establishing trust & confidence among peers & customer. Actively advocates for customer’s goals. Invested in growth & development of members of the Penguin team.
  • Using critical thinking, good business sense and organizational values to make decisions involving complex matters with a major level of risk and ambiguity.
  • Skillful at applying defined standards, tools, and processes. Actively looks for areas of simplification / improved efficiency and able to design and implement improvements.
  • Demonstrated use of spreadsheets, document development software, presentation development, email/Slack – and the ability to learn/adapt to new tools.
  • 5 years experience with installation and setup of a Linux server, including basic security, network services, package management, and basic shell scripting. 1-2 years experience training others on the same concepts.
  • Experience creating a welcoming environment that encourages different perspectives and new ideas, building a culture of curiosity, openness, and creativity across the organization and the wider community.
  • 2+ years experience energizing and inspiring others to strive for excellence and commit to common goals and purposes, creating a sense of self-efficacy, resilience, and persistence in followers.
  • 2+ years of experience guiding the interaction of team members while keeping them focused on results. Develops trust among internal and external teams.
