Caterpillar’s Energy and Transportation Division is currently seeking a Service Engineer in the Americas service engineering team, located in Mossville, Illinois . In this role you will focus on improving product quality and customer reliability of the IPSD engine platforms. This position will proactively monitor product health of the engine systems and provide service engineering support to launch, resolve and communicate CPI issues. This position will also work on investigating and resolving day to day field issues and support DSN with complex field issues.

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for monitoring the overall engine system performance, quality and warranty on IPSD products in America’s for both Caterpillar and Perkins branded engine applications.

  • Identify emerging issue on IPSD Caterpillar and Perkins branded engine applications and define the problem in terms of symptoms, applications, and conditions.

  • Work with dealers and engineering to help determine root cause of the problem and collect any information needed to support issues investigation.

  • Work with engineering to provide better guidance on interim corrective actions to the field quickly to minimize warranty impact.

  • Participate in developing permanent corrective actions for the problem, validating the solution and publishing corrective actions. Publications will include service magazines, engine news, technical information bulletins and service letters. Initiate product improvement programs through PIP / PSP warranty program preparation to address commercial / business impact of field problems.

  • Provide engine systems technical product support to dealer personnel, machine product service engineering groups, design engineers, service technical representatives (GCI, Industrial, BCP, Mining, etc).

  • Conduct dealer and customer visits to personally provide technical assistance on urgent field problems when necessary.

  • Provide IPSD DSN Tier 2 analysts guidance on difficult DSN tickets and work with engineering to answer any unresolved questions

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelors’ degree in Engineering or 5+ years of product related and/or field experience.

  • High level of knowledge of engine and aftertreatment systems

  • Proficient analytics tools user

  • Intermediate knowledge of customer solutions (parts products, service offerings, solution offerings)

  • Advanced Engineering Degree

  • Service engineering experience

  • Highly Motivated

  • CANape/DATK/Forecast/CATET/Tableau/PowerBi experience

  • SC2 and Product link working knowledge

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Strong business acumen

Additional Information

  • This position will be based in Mossville, IL

  • Travel requirement up to 25%, may include international travel
