JOB SUMMARY

The Health Inspector ensures the safety and sanitation of the public concerning local food establishments and public pools. This is accomplished by conducting routine inspections, enforcing standards, working with local and state officials, and educating the public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

· Conducts food inspections by assessing establishment conditions, testing conditions, tracking historical data, educating owners, and documenting results

· Inspects swimming pools by testing water, inspecting for structural and mechanical issues, assessing the knowledge of operators, and documenting findings

· Prevents the spread of communicable diseases by interacting with health officials, attending training, educating the public, and tracking disease

· Completes administrative tasks by reviewing plans and documents, researching codes, policies, and procedures, completing reports, and maintaining records

· Issues citations and notices of violation in order to ensure code compliance

· Cleans dirty pools by using larvicide and abate

· Identifies complex problems and reviews related information in order to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

· Oversees all mosquito and vector control contracts

· Inspects numerous temporary food events

OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE

Advising management on issues, developing and recommending ordinances and policies, and addressing citizen inquiries.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree, and three (3) years of related work experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Knowledge of departmental practices and systems.

· Skilled in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.

· Skilled in using computers for data entry.

· Skilled in using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.

· Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service.

· Ability to supervise, organize, and communicate effectively.

· Ability to exercise independent thinking within the limits of policies, standards, and precedents.

· Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.

· Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a state-issued Sanitarian license.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $56,225.00 - $81,527.00 per year
