Job Summary

This position is an Information Security Engineer familiar with multiple product sets. They will perform preliminary design and optimization plans and resolve complex problems by providing enterprise-wide security architecture, configuration, and management support and oversight to the security systems of the University. This includes multiple product suites (e.g., all intrusion prevention/detection product, all firewall products, and all network management authentication and authorization products) as well as serving as a back-up for operational support as needed.

Additionally, this individual will conduct defensive and remediation activities of these systems during emergency events. They will assist in testing and developing the integration of multiple security hardware and software products and architectures, as well as research in support of the architecture in which the security products are implemented. This individual will coordinate the troubleshooting efforts of operational staff and resolution of problems relating to the product suites for which they are responsible. They will review reports regarding security deficiencies, faults, and incidents and will then investigate and make remediation recommendations accordingly.

The mission of the ISO is to assure the security of the University's Information Technology (IT) resources including building a cyber-threat resilient University culture and promoting the existence of a safe computing environment in which the University community can teach and learn.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$70,000 - $80,000 annual

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree in a Technically focused field conferred prior to start date
  • Work experience that included:
    a. Five or more years of professional work experience with systems administration, specifically with Linux/Unix or Windows Servers
    b. Two or more years of experience with all of the following:
    • assisting with security events and digital investigations
    • managing, maintaining, and supporting Datacenter Firewalls and Wan-based Firewalls
    • performing various system administration duties for assigned applications including design, installation, configuration, and patch management
    • designing solutions for various project and operational needs
    • leveraging server scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Perl
    • system and security monitoring of servers and server applications
    • developing and maintaining installation and configuration procedures
    • performing troubleshooting and problem solving, efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel
    • gathering requirements, writing use cases, facilitating meetings, documenting notes, creating deliverables, and establishing healthy business relationships
    • providing service to customers, utilizing a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process and service quality, and reliability
  • Experience with certificate services for an enterprise through a recognized CA, and experience creating system documentation in written and diagram formats
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to conduct internal and external meetings
  • Ability to:
    a. work independently and in a team environment with good communication and collaboration skills
    b. effectively communicate complex technical concepts verbally and in writing to management, technical staff, and customers in terms appropriate for each audience
    c. adapt quickly to new technologies and changing business requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, including the ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Foundation qualification in Information Technology Infrastructure (ITIL) v4
  • Certified Forensic Analyst
  • Certified Intrusion Analysts
  • Certified Incident Handler
  • Advanced project, analysis, and research skills
  • Experience in higher education security systems and policies
  • Ability to leverage Microsoft Visio, and Excel
  • Experience managing, maintaining, and supporting access control systems
  • Experience managing, maintaining, correlating, and supporting enterprise logging services

Work Hours

Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday; weekend or after-hours work may be required to support change management or disaster recovery. Overnight travel (2-5 days) for training and/or professional development is infrequent but may be required.
