Your new role

In this key HR role you will provide comprehensive generalist and technical HR support to business leaders, including coaching and support in ER matters, organisation design & change, workforce planning and all people related activities required for business success and continuous improvement.

The role will be offered on a remote location basis, but the successful candidate should be prepared for 40/50% of their working time to be based in and around our depots and offices, namely (but not limited to) Stoke Gifford - Bristol - London North Pole, London Ludgate Hill, and Ashford - Kent.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Partnering closely with stakeholder groups to support business strategy and deliver the people/ HR strategy. Inputting into design and execution of the people plan for own business area

  • Coaching and supporting leaders with all people-related issues and provide solutions directly or in liaison with Centres of Excellence and other HR colleagues

  • Providing advice to leaders and colleagues on the pragmatic application of policy, process and other related guidance to fit business needs whilst remaining compliant and fair •Coach and challenge managers to become effective people leaders

  • Managing or providing HR support in escalated, complex or sensitive ER cases and/ or appeals as necessary

  • Leading within stakeholder group on the delivery of all cyclical people-related activities: GPM ratings and calibrations, Talent Management, Succession Planning and Performance Related Pay, Bonus and Employee Insights

  • Leading within stakeholder group on the people-related activities aligned to business change or initiatives, linking with the HR Change Lead and ER/ IR Specialist as necessary

  • Working with business leaders to provide fit for purpose solutions to improving key people measures such as reducing absence, improving retention, employee engagement and any other related elements.

  • Basing guidance and advice on the interpretation of quality data where available.

  • Working in liaison with and supporting the HR Operations team in improvement activities relating to data management and HR service level improvements

  • Working closely with ER/ IR colleagues and leadership to build a collaborative and positive relationship with incumbent Unions

  • Working collaboratively with HR Business Partners and HR Advisors throughout all lines of business to ensure consistency in approach

  • Fostering a positive working environment for all Hitachi Rail Ltd employees and supporting the business in working to become and employer of choice

  • Being a role model and advocate for Hitachi Rail Values and Behaviours at all times

  • Being a role model for safety and quality at all times

About you – you will have, or be able to demonstrate….

  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent qualification or demonstrable experience

  • Working knowledge of UK employment law and legislation affecting employment

  • Demonstrable experience of supporting the development of pragmatic business solutions

  • Experience in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders

  • Effective facilitation, influencing, conflict-resolution and negotiation skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience of effective stakeholder management at all levels of an organisation

  • Ability to build rapport quickly and maintain effective relationships

  • Confident leading on all aspects of people management and development

  • Experience of working with Trade Unions

  • Excellent IT skills – typically Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project and MS Teams

  • Experience within Engineering, Manufacturing or Industrial organisations, multi-site operations and/ or rail

  • Experience in an environment of ambiguity

  • Experience of complex business change, TUPE, mobilisation work or similar

  • Previous leadership experience
