General Summary:

Under the general direction of the Development Director, the Grant Associate is responsible for the overall success of the corporate, foundation, civic/community, and faith grants. In addition, this position does occasional writing for press releases, appeals, newsletters and other marketing material for the agency.

Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Grant Associate plans and executes grant writing and proposals. The Grant Associate will also pay particular attention to fostering relationships with new and existing funders, especially individuals, faith based entities, corporations, and foundations. Through the use of detail-oriented organization, proficiency of technology, and strong written and oral communication skills, this position will enable JOURNEYS | The Road Home to reach its fund-raising goals and continue to strengthen and build new strong community relationships.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Education, English, Communications, Journalism or related field
  • One - Two years experience in grant writing and/or communications
  • Knowledge of writing computer software and fully proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Familiar with the communities within JOURNEYS service area
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Essential Functions:
GRANT WRITING | 85%

  • Prepare grant proposals with the support of the development team
  • Research new funding opportunities, and review opportunities with Director of Development
  • Keep organized and detailed donor files for all grants written
  • Keep an organized and detailed grants calendar to assure that grants are being put out on a consistent basis
  • Supply timely grant reports to the Director of Development and donors as requested
  • Provide data analysis of agency grant activities, for external and internal use

MARKETING | 10%

  • Assist the Director of Development with creating public relations and marketing materials such as brochures, press releases, regional overviews, e-blasts, and annual reports
  • Interface with other professionals through membership in selected professional organizations as well as at workshops and networking meetings

ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS | 5%

  • Maintain accounts for corporate giving and affiliate giving programs and coordinate documentation in donor database
  • Administrative Assistance to the Director of Development including research
  • Implement fund raising goals as directed by the Director of Development

This work is primarily sedentary and requires travel throughout the service area as well as within the greater Chicago area. The work schedule varies depending on the needs and services of the organization. Evening and weekend work is necessary in order to attend meetings or to participate in events. This position will require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
