IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, VAFB or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position.

  • This position is eligible for an annual incentive payout upon delivery of specific milestones. New hires will receive a prorated amount of the bonus incentive based on their hire date. Bonus incentive period will be in effect from 2022-2025. Incentive plan is subject to specific plan details and may be changed or updated as approved by leadership.

This position is anticipated to remain in our Santa Cruz, CA facility until Q3 2024. At that point in time the work will be moved to other facilities across the country. We are committed to the work that needs to be done in Santa Cruz in between now and then. The hiring leader in charge of this role will be able to share more specific information tied to the move of this position during the interview process.

This occupation requires the construction and repair of wooden buildings, additions, partitions, furniture and equipment; the hand and spray painting of buildings, areas, equipment, rolling stock and furniture, including both new and old constructions and equipment; the installation, repair and maintenance of plant plumbing systems, fittings, accessories and fixtures, including sanitary, steam, various gas, air, sprinkling, hydraulic, water, paint, etc.
Basic Qualifications:
Sets up and operates power woodworking equipment as required. Builds, by performing rough carpentry work, such items as sheds, storage bins, platforms, flooring roofing work benches, shelving, lockers, foundry flasks, partitions, molding boards, and radial router table tops. Makes repairs on these items as directed. Saws and finishes lumber rand wood substitutes to specifications or verbal instructions. Positions component parts with or without the use of fixtures, from verbal instructions, layout or sketch, and fastens them by nailing, screwing and/or gluing. Installs, mates and fastens them by nailing, screwing and/or gluing. Installs, mates and fastens completed sections. Repairs office equipment by performing such operations as installing casters, replacing desk drawer bottoms, nailing, doweling and gluing broken legs, arms and backs on chairs and resurfacing desk and table tops. Installs hardware such as hinges, locks, plates and knobs.

Determines type and kind of materials needed, number of coats required, adequacy of surface preparation and areas to be painted according to instructions, specifications and trade practice. Performs such typical operations as applying by use of brush and spray guns, prime seal, and undercoats to such items as office walls, ceilings, and woodwork. Applies finish and/or protective coats to floors, walls, ceilings, walks and stairways, equipment such as machinery jigs, booths, storage cabinets and guard rails, and to office or plant furniture filing boxes and cabinets.

Performs routine plumbing maintenance operations and makes routine functional and performance inspections. Reads meters, gauges and keeps records of readings as required.

Glazes and replaces glass and lays linoleum as required. Thins materials used to proper consistency. Rigs scaffolding and swing stages as directed. May be required to possess license or certificate as required by law.

Materials worked on: Lumber and wood substitutes as masonite, micarta, tenite, plywood, wallboard, corrugated iron (as attached to material described). Buildings, furniture and equipment. Various kinds and sizes of pipe, fittings and plumbing fixtures, pumps, valves and boilers. High and low pressure tubing and hoses, etc.

Materials worked with: Builders' rough and finish hardware as nails, screws, locks, doorknobs, hinges, sand emery paper, wax, chalk, and crayon, roofing material, wire netting, glass, linoleum, felt padding, and insulation materials. Various types of paints, shellacs, lacquers, stains, varnishes, whiting, coloring materials, linseed and other oils; white lead, thinners, putty, fire retardant liquids, sand papers, paint removers, rags and canvas covering. Fittings, pipe, white and read lead, solder sealing compound, lead, straps, insulating materials, cement plaster, solvents chemical cleaning agents, oakum, cotton twist and wicking, meters and gauges, soap abrasives and water glass, etc.

To use carpenters' hand tools. Knowledge of carpentry. To set up and operate power woodworking machines. To use paint brushes, spray guns and accessory equipment. To work from scaffold and swing stages. Knowledge of paint shop practice and procedure applied to maintenance and new construction painting. To set up and operate pipe cutting and threading machines and accessories; to use plumbers' hand tools, and measuring instruments. Knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting shop theory, practice and procedure. To read and interpret detail, assembly and installation blueprints. To use arithmetic, including decimals and fractions.

Ability to obtain a secret clearance
Desired Skills:
Forklift/PALD Operator; basic mechanical, plumbing, painting, sheet metal and carpentry skills.
Adept with powered hand tools and equipment.
Specific to Santa Cruz: Capable with landscaping/land clearing/defensible space clearing equipment and techniques.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
