Boeing Laser and Electro-Optical Systems (LEOS) is looking for an Experienced FPGA Firmware Design Engineer (Field Programmable Gate Array) to support cutting edge programs at our Albuquerque, New Mexico location. This experienced firmware engineer will be working with a multi-disciplinary team supporting the development of systems for a variety of domains (ground, air and space) to support the development of high-performance electro-optical/infrared (EOIR) sensing systems and laser directed energy weapon systems.

The Laser & Electro-Optical Systems (LEOS) team develops cutting edge Directed Energy Weapons Systems for the US Department of Defense as well as state of the art electro-optical sensors and processing for various customers including NASA, DHS and other organizations operating worldwide. LEOS has established itself as the Electro-Optical Center of Excellence within the Boeing Company.

Position Responsibilities:

• Develops, documents and maintains architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for firmware systems.

• Develops and maintains code and integrates software components into a fully functional firmware system.

• Develops firmware verification plans, test procedures and test environments, performing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure firmware system requirements are met.

• Performs firmware project management and firmware supplier management functions.

• Develops, selects, tailors and deploys firmware processes, tools and metrics.

• Executes and documents firmware research and development projects.

• Serves as a subject matter expert for firmware domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations.

• Tracks and evaluates firmware team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards.

This position allows telecommuting. (Hybrid) The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. (Albuquerque, NM)

This position requires the ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearances, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

• Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree

• 4+ years’ experience in FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) based Firmware design engineering

• U.S. Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• Demonstrate experience with digital signal processing (DSP), image processing – Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, System Generator

• Demonstrated experience in developing software for embedded systems in C, C++, Rust, or another relevant software language

• Development of FPGA VHDL code

• Review of digital electronics designs

• Interfacing FPGAs and General-Purpose processors

• Familiarity with common electronic components, reading circuit design schematics, and the ability to contribute to hardware designs

• Familiarity with Git revision control

• Familiarity with digital design concepts targeting FPGA HW, Coding proficiency in VHDL/Verilog

• Implement algorithms on advanced processing platforms

• U.S. DoD Top Secret Clearance, Secret Clearance or DoE Q Clearance

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range: $104,550 - $141,450
