The Public Guardian’s Office is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Estate Technician position. As a member of the PG team, you will secure and inventory personal property including vehicles for storage in the warehouse and donate or dispose of personal property. You will physically assist with the moving and storage of personal property including household furnishings, furniture, vehicles, etc.


This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years full-time general office support experience, one (1) year of which included experience related to maintaining inventory records and storing or disposing of inventoried personal property, OR experience in professional investigative work. Some college level education in an appropriate field is desirable.

Working Conditions: Work in various residential locations, which may be in various states of disrepair or cleanliness and which may not meet handicapped access standards. Work with potential exposure to hazardous materials, including bodily fluids.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Public Guardian duties:
Arranges for and oversees the removal, auction, sale and storage of personal property; arranges for the shipment of property to heirs or movement to a secure location for storage; assists other staff as needed in all handling of property, May direct the work of and works with investigators; provides instruction, advice and follow-up to ensure coordination and timely completion of assigned duties. Physically assist with the moving and storage of personal property including household furnishings, furniture, vehicles, and more.

Both positions:
Processes incoming cases by inventorying and securing personal property of both monetary and non-monetary value belonging to individuals under guardianship and deceased persons; inventories and secures cash, jewelry, firearms, collectibles and monetary items that are brought into the office by field investigative staff to the warehouse or vault. Prepares documentation and verification for release of property to appropriate family members or authorized representatives; provides certain procedural information and assistance to such individual(s); acts as liaison with other public and private organizations regarding asset processing and distribution. Learns proper identification of and assists in the search for wills, stocks, bonds, documentation of heirs and additional assets; may verify authenticity of documents. Communicate as needed with family members, creditors and others regarding estates; provides information regarding rules, regulations and procedures of Public Guardian and Public Administrator based on the department to which assigned. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of applicable department's customer service by offering suggestions and participating as an active member of a work team. Maintains complete, detailed and accurate records, inventories and files; completes forms, reports, correspondence and other written and electronic materials. Uses a variety of standard office equipment, operates common warehouse equipment including a forklift and drives a County or personal motor vehicle as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in various residential locations which may be in various states of repair and/or cleanliness, climb stairs, use standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle in order to visit various work sites; strength to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
