This individual would assist the Estimating/EWP Design team in their fulfillment of the following objectives and responsibilities:

Estimator / EWP Designer: Creates material counts through a thorough review of construction documentation for residential and light-commercial projects. Use CAD software to provide EWP floor, ceiling and roof framing layouts for construction of residential and light commercial projects.

The right candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy. This position requires extensive written and verbal communication with coworkers and colleagues to properly prepare piece-count material estimates, and to prepare CAD layouts and design EWP beams and i-joists. Strong computer skills are a must. Knowledge of residential wood-frame construction is preferred, as is familiarity with current building codes including the 2015IRC, 2015IECC, and relevant Massachusetts Amendments.

Estimator / EWP Designer - Responsibilities:

Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and requirements; setting priorities.

Prepares material estimates by studying construction plans; reviewing specifications; identifying and projecting costs for building components as required by our clientele.

Prepares framing layouts and marked-up plans by evaluating structural load flow and framing conventions to meet the requirements of the architectural drawings.

Identifies opportunities for value engineering; suggests opportunities for price/performance modification.

Obtains bids from vendors by identifying appropriate sources of materials, providing a clear scope of work, and including relevant drawings and specifications.

Maintains manufacturer’s catalogues and assembly instructions as needed to provide accurate bill of materials.

Resolves quantity discrepancies by collecting and analyzing as-built information.

Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.

Maintains quality standards by following organization protocols.

Maintains continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related requirements as needed.
